2015 Defy Advanced?

Has anyone fitted 28mm tyres on a 2015 Giant Defy Advanced? Looking to get some Conti GP4000s or 4 Seasons in 28mm but supposedly they come up a little big at 30/31mm so hoping someone else has already checked for me first, lol! ;)

Speaking of which, I got a custom case printed for my new phone...

Right now I'd say base layer but within a month or two I'll be wearing a base layer and possibly a windbreaker too. Once we hit Nov/Dec I'll add an extra layer or swap out the wind breaker for a soft shell.

Thanks, I'll get a base layer for now, then look into a windbreaker in the next few weeks.

Any suggestions what to look for? I've been getting budget clothing do far, mainly b'twin stuff which has been alright. Not looking to spend loads.

My reply was to Jono, who specifically mentioned it being dark :)

And on reflection shouldn't have ;). By "dark" I meant "not bright sunlight". - dawn and dusk. I agree, flourescent only works properly when there's some light.

But speaking of clothing, since I've never really ridden past mid-october... and I don't want to stop unless it's actually snowing/sheet icy/not safe to.... what should I be thinking about?

I'm a (un)naturally hot person. As soon as I start moving I warm up a lot - I don't think it's just because I'm so much of a biffa, but that's probably partly the cause. When I weighed about 70-75kg (not the 90-odd I currently do) I was still always hot compared to everyone else.

When does one add arm warmers to a short sleeved top, and when does one progress to long sleeved tops.
When does a windstopper gilet type thing over the top of something quite thin become insufficient and one should move onto a softshell.

What about rain? I'm yet to find (or look for) a really pack-down-small-able rain cover type thing... that I won't instantly roast in as soon as I put it on.
Maybe something water resistant but still very breathable (is that a thing?) would be best?

I run very hot too. If you check the previous few posts you'll see some rough suggestions from me for autumn/winter wear :)

I personally ride right through, including in ice/snow. I take things very slowly in the snow of course.

I don't like wearing more than two layers! Base layer and jersey and off I go. Rain jacket if I really must. I do wear a skullcap and warm gloves, though, and bib tights or leg warmers, and overshoes.

I'm very hot too, I only ride in shorts + baselayer during the winter :) I don't have waterproofs, bar over-shoes which don't fit(duh) !

I find that just dropping a spare/dry baselayer/shorts in the backpack and keeping it at work is enough!

Made some progress this morning (thx for the kudos roady). 6 pb's, average speed up a bit, and less tiring than last time i took this route, which i'm happy with, i think i'm definitely getting used to it now. I took 10 minutes off my last try. However, i've got a niggle now that i might need to make more adjustments to my seating position. I think my seat might be still too low and my thighs are doing all the work rather than my whole leg, though my legs aren't bending outwards when i ride. Still, every improvement is a goal :)

Also, i've had my bike for a couple of weeks now, i've got my essential gear sorted but haven't really thought about cleaning / maintenance gear yet. What essential bits of maintenance kit should i be buying, what maintenance should i be doing, and at what intervals?

Thx

Length/type of ride also dictates what I wear as much as temperature. I'd be impressed if grudas wore that little during a 5 hour ride in Surrey at 5C.:p

I'm heading out in 40mins.
Base layer, jersey, jacket, long finger gloves, tights & overshoes.
Because Scotland.
It's been < 12 degree's all day. Goodness knows what it will be in 2 hours, -3 probably.

tbh I probably would :O I warm up after 3-4 miles and then it takes a while to cool down to a point where I feel uncomfortable :P
