So we need a quota that can be met. And with things the way they are is going to look very 'inhumane' but it's the only way

While i'll assume that comments like that aren't meant to be taken at face value and nothing more than hyperbole, i do think it's a mistake for migrates who are taken off these boats are then brought to the EU mainland, they should be instead taken back to the boats point of origin and dumped back there, like they did in Australia. After a while they'll get the message that route is closed and off limits.

My day job is defending people like you, and your right to an opinion which day to day is becoming genuinely harder to stomach....

banter is one thing, but the lengths some people *verbally* go to on here to justify borderline genocide in the name of keeping Britain British is beyond a joke sometimes....

After reading the last few pages of this thread, I have to say I am shocked at some of the scum in these forums & in this country. The manner of how some of the post are written and what they are saying is a similar to what the Nazi's did say about the Jews. Truly disgusting.

We are talking about actual human people and they are being talked about as Rapist, Criminals & Terrorists. People are actually talking about shooting immigrants as a possible solution.....Why not just reopen Auschwitz camp while we are at it.

You might have wanted to research Churchill's views and comments on immigration before making that post

(Some of his comments on it in the 50s barely stop short of shoot them as they come out of the tunnel - obviously it didn't exist then before someone takes that too literally).

It's obvious the media are pulling on the heartstrings with some of these migrant stories. A young boy got washed up in the sea which is very sad, but it's a simple way to manipulate people into welcoming these migrants.

I see something far more ominous in the future. I can easily envisage a future Europe where natives are persecuted by muslims. Beheadings, people being burned alive, thrown off buildings etc. Look how much devastation ISIS has done with only a few tens of thousands, and most importantly a goal in mind. If a group assembled in Europe it would be a turkey shoot.

Meanwhile Western Europe is sleep walking into it, too busy thinking about social media, selfies, reality tv and ikea furniture. Europeans are simply going to be outbred in the next couple of decades and there isn't enough integration to stop the bad stuff from happening. It's either fight or flight.

Supply and demand? The traffickers know that they will be picked up so that encourages more to come and the traffickers get richer and richer.

If the boats were intercepted and turned around they would know they weren't going to get in so the demand would dry up.

But show bodies of children wash up on shores and shout "AAARRRrrrgh!" and say "let them all in!" with no thought given to long term consequences.

You (the general you, as in 'one') can express your desire to not have these people in your country without resorting to dehumanising them or "as a laugh" saying they should be gunned down. Or at least you can, if you know the words you need to use (again, the general 'you').

It's easy to say totally unrealistic and infeasible things when you're sitting behind a monitor with zero clue on what you're actually talking about.

The Ozzies have camps in Papua New Guinea where they are detaining immigrants. Their #1 priority is spreading the message that Australia is not a good place to try to enter illegally.

It's a very cold approach, although I can't say I disagree with it. As I said before, I'm very conflicted. I have enough compassion to hate seeing anybody suffering, but at the same time I don't think it's realistic to think we can stop it.

In fact the whole situation seems hopeless on a global scale. After Syria/Libya there will be somewhere else, there always is.

'Less Than Human' by David Livingstone Smith is worth a read regarding the mechanisms of animalistic dehumanisation, examples of which are prevalent in this thread.

I guess in the same way it's easy to say whatever you like about other people when you're hundreds of miles away from them. I take your point about nobody offering solutions, but I don't really think there are any. Doing nothing or building a bigger fence isn't going to stop this.
