The EU Migrant Crisis

The way I view this situation is that refugees are trying to get away from somewhere, whereas migrants are trying to get to somewhere. So all those people in safe countries demanding to go somewhere else are migrants trying to game the system, and creating resentment for those who truly are in need.

Absolutley correct. Once in a safe haven that is where it ends. If they then want to move to a more lucrative venue they then become economic migrants.

I turned the news off tonight, rare event, but I couldn't stomach the media hysteria one minute longer. As for the BBC special at 7.30 tonight, that will most definitely not get an airing in our house.

"We" do not. There is no wave. The door was never open. The government has only committed to taking in 500 asylum seekers from Syria over the next three years. Let that sink in.

This countries repsponse is an absolute disgrace.

Seems fair to me given all the other migrants we take plus the near billion pounds of taxpayer's money we have sent to that region.

What will you be contributing?

Interesting take on the situation. People are on the move not because of they're poor but because they're getting richer:

When the crew of HMS Bulwark first fished immigrants out of the Mediterranean, they were expecting to find the world’s hungry, wretched and destitute. Instead, they found them relatively healthy, well-dressed and carrying mobile phones and credit cards, which they intended to use upon arrival in Italy.

Think I might head over to the US or Australia in a boat and hang around their border until I get taken in, I feel like a better life myself.

Wonder how far I'll get?

Attention citizen, failure to show sufficient enthusiasm for the hundreds of thousands of Muslims that are invading your country means that you are an Islamaphobic neo-Nazi who wants to kill babies. The recent photo of a dead child on the beach proves it. (Don't go saying it proves that his parents put their child in danger, or that the Islamic countries failed to provide safe alternatives, it's racist to suggest that they can be expected to act in a civilized manner)

Until the next generation fly off to join IS in Syria in their thousands and the same people will be wringing their hands, shaking their heads saying "b-but I don't understand, where did it all go wrong?"

I'm bleeding to death here.

I think you misunderstood my post.

This is a sad thread because half the posters have their heads so far up their backsides they can't see what is happening to this country.

I am just glad I probably won't be around in 10 years time.:(:(

Announce millions in aid whilst at the same time cutting cancer drugs because of costs for your own people...

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with this?

Are you now criticising them for being normal people & families who had a normal life with jobs and money who are fleeing because their homes are now in a war zone and who are able to at least fund and support themselves somewhat when they get to a new place, rather than being criticised for being the dregs of the earth just coming to fleece us of all our benefits, rape all of our women and start a holy war?....

Thats why I don't hear Japan, Rep of Korea and NL saying to the migrants come to our country.

Japan has 13k refugees, Korea 5k and Netherlands 92k.

Source: UNHCR.

So you're wrong, but hey, don't let the facts get in the way of an opinion.

OT:- There are currently 226 UK refugees residing in other countries. Probably seeking refuge from idiotic comments on this forum!

It turns out that the Syrian kid drowned because his dad was wanting new teeth.

Sigh.

They "fled" from Turkey apparently, that awful holiday destination..

Yeah - thought it was a you tube video - misrepresenting the facts.

So the sister said he was going to get his teeth sorted out once they got to thier destination - so what? It wasn't the reason they were leaving Turkey - they left because of the deteriotaing conditions in the refugee camp in Turkey. Incidently, the father had a job in Turkey and the family joined him there from Syria after thier house was bombed.

Anyway, we now know we are going to take a sizeable number of additional refugees.

Statistically, most of them end up in London and the South East (source BBC news).

Which strikes me as odd, because that is precisely where they will cost the taxpayer the most to house them.

Or does London have a lot of empty council-owned property (suspect not, given how in-demand property is in London).

The South East already has the infrastructure and jobs needed to support the additional population - it's where most of the UK's investment goes - it makes sense to settle the refugees there as well.
