When in Autumn do you put your heating on?

Put it on last week, mainly to give it a run through after the weather changed. The suns there but the heats gone. It felt lovely and cosy stood next to a red hot radiator. Bring on winter :D

This question might derail the thread a little but a few of you have mentioned smart thermostat's eg Nest
just wondering how they actually save money if there always coming on to say set the house temp to 17 degrees ?
Surely it would just be better to heat the house for say 1 hour 3 x a day?
(im hoping you guys have a good reason as i've spotted the Hive 2 and it's shiny and i need an excuse to throw money at it!)

We never heat our home ( not in the past 2 or 3 years since mum moved out anyhow).

Both my bedroom and living room has enough electronics to keep the room warmer than 18c even in sub zero temps, and we have good isolation ( double/triple glass everywhere).

Waste of money, we don't have gas but city heating, and it's bloody expensive. Only have a bit of cold in the morning, but I'd rather fire up an electric 2000W heater in the morning for 5 mins to warm my feet up than to use central heating.

Shame really, as we have floor heating, and that always felt like heaven, but it's not worth the money.

My place cost 16 euro a day to heat (underfloor and CH). Does that make you feel better? :D

I'll just keep putting more clothes on for a little while yet. Then once it gets cold enough to make my hands & face cold, I'll put the heating on.

We keep the thermostat at 21 degrees as we don't want it getting cold overnight for the kids, it's started kicking in during the last few evenings so the temperature is definitely dropping.

The wife put it on on Saturday, along with the winter duvet.

Then tells me we are about to have a "indian summer"...again

If I'm cold I put on a jumper. Bloody females.

How is district heating costed? by the size of the house? And you only purchase it in the colder months? Or a yearly subscription? In a lot of ways, I think it makes good sense.

My place can get down to 15C or so in the depths of winter, but with a jumper on it doesn't bother me too much.

If I'm in a room and it's really cold, I'll just stick a radiator on for a bit (they're electric) until it warms up and then off again.
