Hi,

I looking for a monitor for a 2013 macbook pro with an Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics card.

The monitor will be used for programming.
ie concentrating on, two large windows (web browser and txt editor/ide) whilst using various smaller windows.

To begin with I thought I would buy a 27" wqhd monitor.
As I believe the text on 27" 4k would be too small?

Then I came across the reviews of the Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4K.

As I am about to double my budget, I need to make sure I am making the right choice.

My desk is quite narrow, about 50-60cm deep, so fear i maybe sitting to close to the monitor?

Also If spending £560+, maybe the LG 34UC97 or similar would be more suitable?
Being able to use 2 laptops sharing the same screen appeals, I'm not sure if both monitors support that?

If i do go down the 21:9 the LG does not appear to be the best, but the thunderbolt would be useful as a mac user and I hat been very lucky with dell equipment in the past.

Thanks.

Is programming the only thing you'd do on it?

No gaming/movie watching?

If so I'd go for this one:

At that aspect ratio it's a lovely resolution. I've only ever used a curved monitor at that ratio, so I don't know if there will be a slight curving away effect caused by the width, but I would have thought for programming it should be no issue at all.

Whatever your potential use, I was scared off 34" superwide by the threat of having bleed and glow from all four corners, a problem that is far less of an issue on the 40" Philips screen.

Yes that is absolutely something to consider. I will never say it's not an issue, it's just a varying degree of how much it'll bother you.

For me it's almost never an issue and the positives outweigh the negatives, but it's really a case by case thing.

I went with Philips 40" 4k at £529 it was too hard to resist.

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the display size but now it seems normal. The monitor is outstanding and though it seems sad I still get pleasure when I turn it on and see how vibrant everything is.

Font scaling in Windows 10 is very good for this screen as well if you're still on an earlier version.

I will be using it with either a macbook pro or air.

Due for delivery at lunch time which is perfect.

A little concerned that my desk is to narrow, looking for a suitable stand now
