Winter is coming

You need to start looking for a new place to rent if it is as bad as you describe, and it is only the beginning of September.

I have a huge room, awesome housemates, great location, and my own shower-room all well under my rent budget threshold. And I'm in contract until next July.

I can live with it being a bit chilly in winter, so just looking for simple ways to make my room a bit warmer :p

Have you considered a Dyson Hot Air Fan?. That will keep your room warm including the house.

If you're going to spend that much on a heater, go for a jet/space heater. Costs £100 less and is really uh.. 'cool' as you basically have a flamethrower for a heater. Does the job extremely well.

Just make sure you don't walk in front of it if you like your leg hair, skin and muscle

I have large, thick, blackout curtains, just trying to cover any other bases. Dyson fan is way over-priced. :p

In all seriousness, my new place is proper old-school, big, single pane windows.

My room is already freezing. Have some of that behind the radiator reflective stuff, but wondered if the insulting window film actually does anything? Or would just basic insulating tape to go around the gaps in the window pane be as good?

The window film does work very well indeed if you get a good seal.

Secondary glazing is much cheaper than it used to be these days. I recently had two 4' x 4' windows done for £500. Made a huge difference to the warmth of the hall and landing as well as cutting out a load of noise.

My window is about 10' x 4', so I think £50 for a heater, radiator reflectors and some film is a better bet :D

Nope, the room is [Franky]SUUUUPER[/Franky] cool in the summer. hence me trying to pre-empt the inevitable freezing winter :p

Did you also miss my post #43 with the big bloody image too? :D

Some GoT fan you are. :p

  ERMAGHERD!!!!!

In my defence, I was on a work PC at the time that does not show images from certain hosting websites.

But I will flagellate a little bit harder just for you! Thinking of you. Yeah that's right. Just there. Hmmmm. Nice.

:D :D

Currently love the winter and look forward to it nice stew cooking on the cooker gpu temps are cold nice wooly socks cant go wrong :)

If you have curtains that don't go to the floor then fold the bottom up and stick it on the window sill. Add another layer of curtains to your existing ones like some black out thermal ones.

Sleep with an opened sleeping bag over your duvet.

That's what I do.
