AMD Reorganizes and Creates Radeon Technologies Group

Already a thread that touches on this but seems to be the opposite - allowing the GPU side to have a more focused management with the whole company on the same page so to speak.

I'm guessing its in response to the fact that the strategic vision of the GPU side of the company has been somewhat lacking of late.

more likely re brand restructure product will no doubt be similar.

massive companies dont just restart its too expensive.so marketing is used to make you believe they do

It's not a spinoff, RTG will simply be its own thing within AMD. The way it worked up til now you had a senior VP of "desktop, graphics and kitchen sinks".

Now you have Raja Koduri, an actual engineer, who worked on GPUs since before the 9000 series heading up a division that is only concerned with Radeon, where he has much more tangible control over the whole shebang.

Sometimes I think these companies are run by monkeys :D So what stopped AMD to retain ATI as current RTG, when they bought it?
Anyway, since GPU division was never a weak link in AMD, I see this as positive thing, especially with some extra money coming in.
If bleeding AMD can create products like Fury X, I can only imagine what would AMD with more money be able to do :)

Don't you remember the slogan from back then? Fusion was the future after all... :D

Well, they were right. Every single CPU today is an APU. Intel, ARM, AMD.

But they could have achieved the same even with ATI being separate entity.
I still have Fusion logo as my google accounts profile logo :D

This is the most important bit:

The RTG will be focused purely on GPU architectures and discrete graphics adapters, namely Radeon and Fire Pro, which means that the new group will be considerably more agile than AMD’s CG is today in the market of standalone GPUs. The Radeon technologies group will not have to develop accelerated processing units or semi-custom chips for AMD’s CG or EESC divisions, which means stronger dedication to discrete graphics processors.

the RTG will not have to align its roadmaps, strategy or tactics with other units. While deep integration of the former ATI Technologies into AMD was crucial for creation of highly-integrated accelerated processing units, the end result was that AMD simply did not have a business unit strongly dedicated to discrete GPUs.

Advanced Micro Devices desperately wants to fight discrete GPU market share back from Nvidia Corp. and the dedicated unit should help the company to do just that. The new Radeon business group should have all the abilities to respond to market challenges quicker.

This gonna be good.

I hope they do get back to a more stable place, I have always had AMD GPU mainly because of price/performance but I like their ethos of opening up technologies.

Well steps had to be taken to save AMD and this is certainly a step.
Hopefully it will work and RTG can emerge much stronger than the graphics division has been of late.

Just so it's clear. The creation of RTG is about enhancing our graphics IP developments and not preparing for a spin-off or other such effort.

Right, back to the Banano launch.

I wouldn't expect an AMD spokesperson to say anything else until a deal goes through.

There's no reason why AMD couldn't have seperate teams internally.

Seriously? AMD won't spin off their graphics they are needed for their apus; for the consoles *along with what they just got with Nintendo* Anyone thinks they will needs their head examined.

Lisa setting right what certain two ceos screwed up......and putting AMD far; far stronger position to move forward.
