New PC received, quick Q on installation plz

I don't think that guide is in the ideal order. With a new build I tend to mount the CPU cooler on the mobo before putting the mobo in the case - depending on which cooler you have it can be a bit of a pain to do it after the mobo's installed. I also tend to install RAM outside of the case.

I do:

Mobo
Cpu
Cpu cooler
Psu
Ram
Gpu
Fans
Hdds
Then cable manage the lot, triple check everything, first boot, install os, remove windows crap, drivers etc etc.

As for connecting up your front panels to your mobo, it should have clear markings what goes where, front panel usb, audio and usb 3 If your case has it will only fit in the correct plugs.

To connect up your power and reset buttons etc again that will be marked( although the writing is usually small) on the mobo, normally at the bottom right.

Some mobos come with a little plastic block for the front panel connectors (power, reset etc) - you plug the wires into the block and then plug the block into the mobo. Makes the task much less fiddly as you can connect the wires up outside the case and then just plug one thing in!

that would be helpful, unfortunately on the x99 gigabyte boards its got separate wires for each function, im on the most hardest bit, the cpu cooler!!

good idea,im gonna follow your order, im on the cpu all in one cooler now, 1 hour ive been messing around and still cant figure out how its done....

the instruction manual is kinda lame, no written instructions, just 6 black and white drawing type diagrams, all the instructions account for all chipsets i.e 775 1366 1150 1156 ect

so its time to hit you tube to see if I can locate a HOW TO INSTALL vid on the cooler master nepton 240 aio cpu cooler... aaarrrghhh I should have paid some one to do it, but the cost scared me away, from what I can remember my x58 build was easy peezee lemon squeezee, but this x99, omg

guys im completely stuck on the cpu cooler, it shows on plenty of vids that you need to attach a back plate on the underside of the mobo, but on the x99 mobo there are no holes to insert the back plate... does any one know if I should skip this step or make drill holes on the mobo?

all the vids show its on lga 775 1366 1156 ect, but no tutorial vids on the x99

the instructions have nothing about the x99 chipset, all I have is a packet with 4 mounting screws.... I think the x99 is new hence the instructions are not there...

I cant see anything on google either

who else has built a cpu cooler on a x99 chipset? can you remember?

Please do not drill holes in your Motherboard. From the looks of most x99 boards you don't need the backplate, check this video for AIO install.

It's for the H100i but the same priniple will apply to other AIO's.

Not used X99 stuff myself, but the instruction sheet for the cooler (Nepton 280L) shows how to fix it to a X99 mobo in pictures 6 and 7. Use the the appropriate screws and attach it to the face plate only, you do not need the back plate.

Yeah x99 have threaded holes on teh front plate, you dont go through the mobo. Some of the x99 boards dont even have holes.

ok that clears it up at 3.51 it states that lga 2011 3 does not need aback plate, I was fiddling for 3 hours last night, 2 to 5am, reason I didn't see the info was I kept on looking at cooler master vids!!

ok cpu cooler, mobo complete now I will start on the HDD,s SSD and drives!

Cheers guys for all ur help I really appreciate it

guys the wire for the pump and the wire for the cpu fans, do I connect the cpu pump in the cpu fan 4 pin slot or the cpu opt fout pin slot?

I don't know what a cpu opt is...

The cpu and opt cpu are both just for your cpu fans incase your using 2, i wouldnt have thought it would make a difference which you put it in, just stick it in the first one.

oh ok so the pump connects to the cpu fan header and the cpu fans connect to the CPU OPT(optional) header?

ALso something Ive read, that disable the cpu fan speed in the BIOS so the cpu fan (pump) gets constant power with no slow downs....??

does that ring a bell?

SSD. And throw the hybrid drive in the bin where it belongs. Just get a regular HDD for storage. I would recommend the Samsung spinpoint M9T (2TB).
