Here's a whacky idea, let's not let population outgrow the services and infrastructure.
 
Some activist on the news this afternoon saying that migrant problem was "purely an admin issue", and that we should be able to accommodate everyone who wanted to come here.

She didn't talk about how we would fund all these immigrants, because being purely an admin issue, they wouldn't need to be paid for, beyond the cost of a few administrators ;)

So by that logic China is over populated, you are aware they have turned large swathes of African countries into their personal garden ?

I think it is important in a situation like we are facing at the moment, caution is important. We should make rational decisions, not emotional ones. I strongly believe we should be taking in refugees, I just don't believe that everyone who says they are a refugee, is one.

Lmfao not....wonder if amigafan will be in soon to defend this and come up with an excuse as to why he was a people smuggler. Surely he must have been coerced to have been involved in such a thing! and the dude had a job in turkey. So much for refugee. It doesn't change the fact the image of a drowned kid is sad, it just irritates me more the way it was thrown around everywhere without the facts being clear first.

As has already been stated, there are plenty of overpopulated countries. Just because we are one of them, and not the most over populated does not make it OK to further compound the situation. It is not a race to the bottom.

I agree, don't badger the guy. Amiga2003 almost single handedly keeps the thread bumped at the top where it belongs and this stuff needs to be front page so people can see what they are letting themselves in for. I've shared quite a few "refugee" video's from this thread and people were quite literally horrified.

I'm arguing against the point made by those saying the UK is not overpopulated. I'm not here wanting to or condemning the Syrians to starvation or death but hosting a whole country in another part of the world is not going to help. We (the rest of the world) should be doing much more to help them in their country and rebuilding it, then the small token amount DC has committed to letting in.

Well their one-child policy would indicate that they feel they are over-populated.

A country's ability to sustain its pop is determined by a number of factors. Its not just available land and food supply.

Any country where a significant % of the people are living in poverty is over-populated. Either because the country can't sustain its pop, or because the economy has no need of the extra workers, or the govt doesn't want them...

As has been said, we shouldn't be aiming to fill the world with as many human beings as we possibly can before people would start to starve. Such a simplistic view of how many humans the Earth can sustain is quite absurd.
