Who's in the right in this road scenario?

I agree that if it is not safe then do not proceed and do not let other drivers force you to do something unsafe.
If that woman think you could force your way into traffic then so could she, but obviously she was wrong. That van driver was also a tool.

Put it this way. You're not even supposed to break the rules of the road or cause a dangerous situation for an emergency vehicle, never mind an idiot and an impatient person.

Well done for not panicking as as new driver might.

Thanks. I'm pleased with how I handled it. She started going off and I just sort of calmly pointed ahead at the non-moving traffic and said to her, 'there's nowhere for me to go.' And she just carried on sucking her teeth and going on about 'move out into the traffic.' Flipping idiot.

You can break the rules of the road if you are ordered to by a Constable in uniform though.

But I'm a new driver so I don't know.

Actually, you probably do.... I'll wager you know the highway code better than people like me (and silly teeth sucking woman and white van man) who passed their tests years ago.

Two people being pillocks by not looking that where they are turning into has room is not your problem. They made their decisions, their problem to deal with it.
