Life in the UK Test

My wife had to do it for her ILR visa. She passed first time. You just have to memorise what's in the book.

Edit - 23/24. They aren't hard questions at all and I didn't even read the book. The only one I got wrong was about the war of the roses being a civil war.

I got the 18th century political parties wrong, the welsh flag (i've only been up 30 minutes:p), peers in 99 and small claims (I was thinking court).

Total agreed. I know its rubbish as this isn't the first thread. But surly if we have such a test. It should be basic English speaking and writing and laws, especially those laws different from home country.

They can deport me to any country with lots of Forrest mountains and lack of laws.

Speaking and writing wouldn't be too relevant for this kind of test since it's one of the other requirements for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Proven either by having a UK degree, a degree from an English speaking country, or one of those TOFEL type tests.

Laws, to an extent, yes, but I suspect be difficult to judge, unless they are really obvious.

Perhaps something on the London Tube, how you get around, which bills are relevant (Council Tax for instance is specific to UK as far as I know) etc. would be more useful.

Fail 17/24
Guess I need to emigrate now. :p

I scored a 130 in my last IQ test which is supposebly quite good, however it didn't really help with questions on things that I take no interest in, eg British history or politics.

Ask me some WW2, ancient Egypt, Tech stuff, wildlife or American states trivia however and I will do much better!

Honestly.

A radio interview the other night on 5 live, the Syrian guy and his family could barely speak a word of English. After bunking in to the country in the back of a lorry, and having his family flown over to join him in his council flat, you really think there on their way home after surely failing such a test. As he's already training to be an electrician, and his kids are already on their way to uni, I Highly doubt it!

Don't get me wrong, im not a hater, just when you relate the current situation to tests like this, and what they really mean... pfff whats the point.

16/24 failed.
What an utterly stupid and pointless test. Utter waste of money. Which **** came up with those questions.

I stopped when it asked a question about Halloween. That's bloody US tradition.

Was well on the way to failing it anyhow :p

Since when is small claims courts an "informal" way of settling disputes? I would never call it informal.

I could have sworn, war of the roses was the two main houses of England at the time for the title of royalty. I thought that consisted of a civil war. I had never heard of the two right answers.
Need to try harder!! See me after :)

I'm not even English and Lancaster/York seems logical.
