Nexus 4 screen smash :(

Dropped my beloved nexus yesterday onto a tiled floor yesterday

Just so happens i took the case off it just before :mad:

Not sure what to do now whether to try to repair myself, get LG to repair or look for another phone. Paid £200 for it when they were on sell out. Love the phone and wasnt even thinking of replacement but **** happens.

Anyone had any experience replacing screens? looking around i think most screens aint originals and i dont want to buy one, try to fix and it doesnt work. Going to give LG a call tomorrow see what they charge.

What other phones are out there now which match performance and price?

Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago, I think I got quoted like £80 for a repair from LG. I thought about repairing it myself, but most screen + digitizer cost £40 and the reviews stated they had issues working properly on lollipop :S. Personally I'm just going to wait it out for the new Nexus at the end of the month

Mmmm £80 aint too bad. Id deffo repair myself if I could get an original screen. The other thing is the battery life on it is pretty bad now so that'll bump it up more if I get them to fit a new one to say £130.

New phone would probably be around £300 mark, mmm not sure what to do :confused:

I broke mine a few weeks after getting it (three+ years ago now) and got a replacement from LG to fit myself. At the time it was about £70 I think. The replacement wasn't difficult with the right tools and a little handiness with these things.

If you can wipe data, sell it for spares on bay and wait for 5x on 29/9.

Can't work it, touch wasn't responding and now the screen isn't coming on.

Sounds good if they just sell the screens still. I've tried ringing this morning but can't get through, ill try later.

Did the screen come with the sticky pads?

You should be able to wipe it through the recovery without needing to use touch.

If haptic still works you may be able to count the clicks to do it.

Gave SBE a call today as they are the official LG repair agents. They quoted 100 for the repair and around 20 for a new battery. All they kept saying though was the quote is only a rough one and its down to the engineer.

Think I'm going to give it a miss and look for a new phone

Looks easy enough to repair yourself, also you might be better buying a "nexus 4 display assembly" which will make it even easier to fix as you won't have to take the screen off the front, just replace the whole front part with screen fitted and insert your phone bits in.

Check this video he does a complete screen repair, not a "nexus 4 display assembly" replacement which is easier and can be had for about £30 and a replacement original battery for £15 which can be done at the same time. So £45 to fix without heat guns and silly tools, all you will need is a Philips screwdriver,Torx Screwdriver and a plastic tool or a thin plastic card to open the back.

Another cheap option is try the high street/market phone shops that do repairs, you know them cheap looking shops that unlock phones and repair them (most do a pretty good job and cheap). Better to fix it and use it if you were happy with it than throw money on a phone you may not like or be happy with wasting more money on a side grade.

Yep, came with everything iirc. Easier than I expected.

for about £100 you can get a moto g 2013 or a moto e, pretty much a nexus without the name.

I would go for something newer, Nexus 5/5x or Moto G/E you get the benefit of 4G then too.

I had 2 Nexus 4's great phones but just old now.

I just got a 2nd gen Moto E brand new for £40 from a mates upgrade, cracking little phone for the price plus 4G, quad core, it does everything I need it too.

I smashed my Xiaomi Mi2s screen back in December. The Mi2s has a very similar specification to the Nexus 4.

I replaced the screen myself. Unfortunately, the proximity sensor didn't cope well and I found myself forever working around the issues it caused.

Eventually upgraded to Samsung Galaxy Alpha and wish I'd just done so earlier. There are plenty of decent phones about that will cost you not much more than a professional repair.

Thanks for all the sugestions folks. Pretty sure I'm not going to try a repair as I don't want to waste money trying and it not work. I've been looking at a few phones such as Z3, G3/4, X play, HTC m8 .
Ideally a 5" screen id say is about right for me, 6" is just a little too big. A decent camera and good battery.

The G2 is still an excellent phone. Bit old now but the size of it is pretty much spot on for a phone.

The screen replacement is not that hard using a display assembly, I did mine and have big hands.
What would be hard is finding a good quality screen for £30, the one I bought from the bay had a yellow tint and was poor in all respects.
I ended up buying a Z3 which made the Nexus feel very slow and dated.
