Firstly I badked up my HDD to an external hard drive before I tried to do a data migration to move my OS from my HDD to my SSD otherwise it will be in my pc not being used, but because there was too much on my HDD to migrate everything I have to delete everything but the OS witch I didn't mind doing as I've got all my files on the external HDD, but some how along the way I think my OS files got courupt, well I get a blue screen when I boot up my pc and it says missing files, before all this I upgraded to windows 10 not sure if that will make a difference, but when I now put in my windows 8.1 disk and try to install I won't work, so I tried to factory reset everything that didn't work because of missing files and I don't know what to do, farther isn't happy all that money wasted and I really need some help. Shall I try to format my HDD and SSD from the CMD then try to install windows again?

Providing you have a backup of your own files, work etc, the best way to do it is to reinstall the OS on the new drive. You can use the install process I think to choose which partitions to format and thus once under way with that you can basically wipe the old drive and let the install configure partitions on the new drive. Never a good idea to move the OS from one drive to another, its asking for trouble a lot of the time.

Which method did you use to move the OS? It really should be fine as long as you use decent cloning software like Macrium Reflect. Cloning software can make a sector-by-sector copy of the disk, so there's not much room to go wrong really.

I would unplug the SSD and try booting from the HDD. If it boots then use Reflect in sector-by-sector mode to clone the HDD onto the SSD.

If it doesn't boot then you may have corrupted the OS on the HDD. The easiest thing then would be to do a fresh install of the OS on the SSD (I would unplug the HDD before booting from the Windows disc).

And don't worry, this is definitely fixable. You haven't lost any money, just possibly some time :)

I have a Samsung SSD so I used the Samsung data migration software, I do have the dvd but it won't let me reset or reinstall not sure why. Mattus I tried to unplug the SSD and its still the same i geuss Ive got a courpt OS, shall I format both drives then take out the HDD and try to install onto the SSD like I wanted in the first place, I've just typed into the cmd 'list dick' and it for some reason says
Disk 0, size 111g, free 135mb
Disk 1, size 931g, free 1427mb
Why are they full I thought I delted everything but the OS on the HDD? So confused haha thank you all for the help hopefully I can save this.

Assuming that is from DiskPart, I think those "free" numbers refer to unpartitioned space rather than actual empty space, so I wouldn't worry about that.

What happens when you try to boot from the DVD?

It comes up with the windows icon then makes me choose witch language, then I type in the code that came with the OS DVD, then it asks where to install the OS but it won't let me press next when I pick either of them?

I just formatted my drives in the cmd then unplugged my HDD and went into the bios and boot from DVD then I seleted the SSD and it stared to install! Might be onto something here thanks mattus really means a lot for you to use time from your day to help me.

It's all up and running fine, just one more qestion do you think I should get windows 10 or stick with 8.1 pro? Thanks for all your inputs.

I would wait as any hardware drivers released for w10 haven't all stood up to use yet and some bugs will be ironed out over coming months. Just make a reminder to do it before the 1st year free upgrade offer runs out.

The opening post is that of mass confusion.

Personally I would disconnect any of the drives you don't want to use and start again - if you make a mistake you're only going to make the problem worse.

If 8.1 was working fine on there prior to this I'd do an 8.1 install and ensure everythings working, so as to rule out hardware issues, before moving to Windows 10.

Personally for most people I would say stick with Windows 8.1 Pro for now. Windows 10 is a good OS, but there are still a few too many niggles for most users. Give MS and other vendors time to release drivers and patches and try it later on down the line. Probably around 6 months.
