hi all

ive just recently changed my case ive gone for a corsair 540 air and put a 360 and a 240 rad in both ek pe as that's what i could fit

i have a 4790k stock and a r9 295x2 stock in as well, id imagine that there are others out there with similar setups(4790`s xfire 290x`s)

my cpu temps after gaming for a while are about 70 with the fans on 70% i think this is a little high but am i just being paranoid as ive come from a build with 2 480 rads in i saw about 50 degrees with this rig

is 70 normal? gpu is fine that sits about 55-60

i dont know if ive mess up with thermal paste on the cpu?

any help thanks in advance

sorry for rubbish layout im rushed for time

Running at stock speeds?

My CPU ran at about them temps before i delidded, was my main reason i delidded to give me room to overclock.

So u say it's about normal at stock.

Im unsure about deliding.

I've got some better themal paste coming so I'll try reseating first

Thanks for advice tho

Every chip is different m8, some chips run a lot cooler than others cause they have had their IHS fitted better. Ive seen some guys getting nearly delidded temps with their stock chips. Luck of the draw like usual with cpus.

At the minute I've got my 360 rad pushing in and my 240 pulling out I might change 240 to push in aswell more cooler air.
Only problem is there is only one rear fan to pull warm air out

Switching the fans to on the 240 to intakes will help a little bit,i run my fans with the same config in a 540,a single exhaust is still plenty to extract the heat

70C and 60C at stock settings, I would say is high. Do you have a thermostat to measure fluid temperature? What pump are you using, and at what speed? Are you sure you have decent flow, as I wouldn't rule out those values being down to almost passive cooling.

If that's the temperatures at stock under water, I dread to think where they would be on air.

I had the same system as you but with 980 SLI and my GPUs sat around 45C with my CPU at high 50s. Everything was overclocked.

I've got ek d5 res pump combo set on 3.

With my other rig I had about 50 with same cpu gpu setup but as said hat was 2 480 rads.

Gpu is fine at what it's at, it it's 2 290s and they do run hot anyhow.

its just the cpu temp that has me worried I was hoping around high 50s mid 60s after long gaming sessions.

Also running 2560x1440 @ 144 screen with ultra settings if that helps owt

yes mate im on to that just waiting on paste

ive changed the way my rads go now too all radiators push in and rear fan blows out, ive done this so the radiators all get cooler air.

also been reading that for what ive got i need pump set to 4 ish to get 1.0 gpm, ive done this and had a litte play this morning with these alterations and temps are much lower bf4 didnt go over 60 on cpu so im happy with that also had rad fans abit lower this run too.

hopefully new paste and push pull on the 240 rad will see mid 50`s

fingers crossed

thanks for the advice guys

Increase in speed makes sense, as by the looks of your original temperatures the fluid was getting too hot.

You should consider an inline temperature sensor the next time you have loop split. They're really cheap and tell you at a glance what's going on with the fluid.

Does seem quite hot at stock.

What paste did you use?, i tried diamond 7 once and it was the worst thing i ever used. EK ectotherm is very good stuff.

Got to be said its a lot to cool with that rad space. the 295x2 doesnt exactly go easy on power. It will be sticking A lot of heat straight into that CPU block until the temperature evens out.

if new paste doesnt make any difference. Id be tempted to flip that top 240 around and take it out of the GPU then into the 240 rad and then into the CPU block, will remove a good few degrees from the water temperature before it enters the CPU. Especially if your going to push pull it.

It goes to 240 first then cpu then gpu then 360 rad

I didn't think loop Layout made much difference once water was warm anyhow.

On other computer it used to go 480 gpu cpu 480
I've got some artic 5 silver coming

For a 360 and 240 rad setup that seems extremely high to me, especially if no overclock. I would leave the fan orientation as it is otherwise you are going to heat up other components (motherboard vrm's, ram, etc) else. Next time you strip it down I would change that 90 degree fitting on the rad coming from the cpu to a 45 degree one.

On a side note, nice neat build and really love the colour scheme.

It's knocked ten degrees off temps by having all rads pulling colder in so Im going to leave them alone now.

I'll try push pull on it tho.

Will removing the 90s make a lot of difference?

I'm just putting it down to these rads not being super efficient as there 40mm I was looking at the xe 60mm rads to start with but can't fit one in the front due to gpu waterblock.

Ahh i see my bad, was looking at the loop wrong, couldnt see the pump. Cooler air will make a difference in a tight setup and if it has knocked 10 degrees off id leave it there, re-paste the cpu though if your concerned only a 2 minute job. On stock intel tends to overvolt the cpu's so stick the voltage in manual and you can probably drop it by quite a margin. I remember my old 3770k would run stock on 1v and without manual it was 1.392v.

I have the PE radiators in my setup 2x480 and 1x240. I have an XE (60mm thick ) coming tomorrow as i can fit that in the top and swap it with my current 480 PE (38mm thick). Let you know how much of a difference it makes.

im tearing it all down on Wednesday to have an investigate

the mobo is 2nd hand so going to clear it all properly to see if anything has been set which i wouldn't notice on a bigger setup

id like to see mid 50`s to be honest

thanks for the advice peeps

Not sure if it has been mentioned, apologies if it has but, what speed is your pump running at?
I found my CPU getting mentally hot when I had my pump running at a low setting. Turned it right up and no problems since....
