No I have not served in the army but thank you for the misguided presumption based one singe fact.

My attitude is one of sadness and frustration.

So you were a soldier who served in the middle east but weren't in the army ?, Out of curiosity as I literally know nothing about the forces what did you do if you weren't in the army but were a soldier ?

The army is full of all sorts of trades. Yes they're all technically soldiers, but they're not really are they? Would you class a an army chef a soldier, or a mechanic, or doctor? It's like thinking everyone in the RAF is a pilot. It's not that simple.

he said he was a soldier that served in the middle east but isn't in the army.

But if you class yourself as a soldier and not a cook, Medic, Doctor etc... then surely you are a soldier ? Unless he's SAS in which case he is a soldier but not directly tied to the army !

Confirmed, arctine is SAS :p

Was it even necessary to mention he was a soldier who served there? Sounds like he just pushed that in there to make himself sound more correct about his opinion.

+1

Nah, Blanket Stacker 3rd Class in the Really Large Corps...

Hey man, Those blankets need stacking, It aint an easy job, Ever had blanket burn from folding sheets furiously ? Stings like a mother !!!

It was good to see David Cameron in the Lebanon today at a UK funded, UN run refugee camp. I still say the UK's foreign aid budget is too high but it's good to know that some of it is being spent responsibly.

Better than just saying "I'm not a hippy" I guess. His job has nothing to do with the rest of his position.

To solve the other confusion he could be a soldier in the Royal Marines or RAF Regt.

Agreed, he's coming out quite well with this so far, good PR, reasonable numbers at a manageable pace from a source that doesn't have the issues of the European "plan" and held on long enough to let merkal make her mistakes and reality sink in.

I got asked if I am a hippy. I was merely making it clear that someone can oppose a wish for 100,000 people to die and also not be a hippy. I'm not discussing it any further.

The important thing is trying to understand why on earth some of you are stating desires or displaying impartiality to the death of people at all.

Also why some of you don't understand that unless you work in national security, you cannot possibly comprehend what is being done to prevent attacks and how difficult it is. Acting like the people keeping you safe in your home are somehow missing something you're aware of is ridiculous.

Why's CallMeDave visiting one of the few countries in the Middle East that UK PLC hasn't bombed/invaded/generally caused mayhem in?

No I'm not a hippy. I'm a soldier who has served in the middle east. I'm just also not an ignoramus.

No idea what you're saying.

You have 0 comprehension of what they do or what they have prevented.

No, you're right. You're much smarter than them.

Then you should know the futility of bringing any meaningful change to the middle east.

Although the spy chiefs who have commented publicly and the investigations to events such as rigbys murder do concur with his assessment, there are thousands of people they need to keep an eye on and resources are heavily stretched, which is why Counter Int has consistently had budget increases recent, and why when lone attacks do get through... They are often known to the services but those same services have been unable to keep up with those persons.

I don't think he was claiming personal inside knowledge

No, neither do I. I think he was implying that they're making a mistake while the fact remains, highly intelligent and efficient people would have assessed the threat before signing off on something like this. My quarrel isn't with people questioning the safety of their home country, it's with people jumping to conclusions and making up their own mind based on almost nothing.
