What's Next For You?

McLaren 540/570 is what I have my eye on, don't really need much more power than the 525 bhp R8, just fancy the looks of a McLaren but don't want to give up the manual gearbox again just yet!

There's a lot of them driving about in Ottershaw/Chobham at the moment as the first customer cars are being built. They are very pretty, especially up close with all the exterior trim in carbon.

Will be ordering my new car in May next year, Ford Kuga Titanium X.

I know for some on here it will be classed as boring but for me with a spinal injury that means I cant get into normal cars due to them being too low its ideal.

Will also be my first car on the Motability Scheme so am really looking forward to getting rid my existing Shogun that I have had for the last 10+years.

Then it will be all about saving up to buy the wife something nice next.

I don't see myself getting rid of the MX5 for a couple until I need something more practical.

With practicality in mind and something that's going to offer a degree of performance in my sort of budget then itll be something along the lines of a Spec-B Legacy Estate, Mondeo 2.0T/2.5T Estate or a T5 Volvo Estate

BMW Z4, probably a 35i. Finally got my flat (new build/renovation) so time to move on to a non rusty car :p:D

E90 330i
Audi TT 225 + remap
Volvo S60R
C32 AMG

In order of likelihood. I really want another BMW. I really would like something with 5 or more cylinders. Four-bangers generally sound completely meh (unless >8k RPM is involved).

Good choice, still wish I never sold mine. Big mistake.

Yeah I remember you saying you liked yours.

Would prefer a 35iS,but want to keep the budget to ~£20k or less. Will see what's out there in a few weeks.

When my PCP is up at the start of 2017 the ST is going to be replaced by either an RS or mustang depending on how practical i need the car to be (which depends on what my missus has at the time)

I have another Insignia on order. This time a diesel auto with adaptive cruise control. Hopefully the 'stop n go' feature will be handy in the M1 traffic. :)

I have an insignia with stop & go, I turn it off as soon as the car starts. It is soooooo annoying in traffic :)

I think you're talking about stop/start and he's talking about the adaptive cruise's ability to stop the car in traffic

Very true and sensible - any used car can cost money! Is yours mapped at the moment? Mines at circa 250 and I just don't know if I'd want any more power in that chassis - I know some suspension mods would help but I don't see 280bhp as a real world limitation :)

It's not mapped at the moment. I'm not 100% about dropping a few hundred on a remap just to effectively waste the remap if I tune it further. I think I need to experience one with a remap to see if it's something I'd be happy with, which might be hard because there's not loads of Briskoda members in South Wales region with tuned octavias that I'm aware of. Maybe if I go to briskoda nationals next year I can get an idea of what these different stages of tune feels like.

I have thought about starting on the suspension first. Apparently the rear anti roll bar is supposedly the best mod you can do for the suspension while also being one of the cheapest, so it may be one of the first things I do. Any plans I have are fairly long term though as I'm dropping all my money into my wedding very soon, and then the inevitable moving house etc afterwards.

I have a Disco Sport on order to replace the Lexus CT200 but would like a weekend car of some kind. Possibly something like a C3 Corvette. :)

I'm not a million miles away in Devon - If I'm in the area I'll let you know or you're passing then drop me a PM, you're welcome to have a shot in mine. Mines on standard springs, bilstein shocks and pretty much new bushes, links, top mounts etc etc all around. What I can say is that under certain conditions, "stage 1" is too much power in that chassis. How much different springs, RARB etc would help I dont know

Natural upgrade from a Cooper S would be for a JCW. But to be honest, the only one I'd bother with would be a GP2 and that's a bit of a silly choice. But it might be the one i'd make... in a few years. :p

I'm hopefully moving onto a Mazda3 2.2D Sport this weekend. Then i plan to have it remapped few months down the line if i feel the need.
Supposedly they can eek out 230Bhp from the 2.2D which would be more than enough

Wouldn't bother, they already feel quite nippy as standard - make sure you read up on the Mazda diesels and oil/dpf problems. Though tbh I don't know if it's the 2.2, 2 litre or both

Guy in work has a saloon, its alright tbh

Definitely affects the 2.2 - we had a load of Mazda 6s as pool cars in my last job with the 2.2 and at least one was always out of service having a new DPF (or it felt like that anyway)

Like all diesels they feel quite punchy but in reality 230bhp (in reality it'll be closer to 200 without doing a lot of other bits) isn't much more than 150 when it's all delivered in one lump in a short band of revs
