Tell me about the 06-14 Audi TT Quattro

A diesel TT, Boxster S, Polo GTi and now an A5. This thread delivers :)

The Boxster is clearly a none starter that he likes the ideas of but realistically doesn't want the potential bills.

Whilst the Polo GTI keeps cropping up the OP appears to have shown very little interest/excitement about this car.

What the op has alluded to is:
- Reduced running costs
- Something with a reasonable boot
- Decent performance (i.e. has tried the Focus ST not the standard model, has mentioned the Polo GTI not the standard Polo
- Is only looking had more premium badges / build quality (VW, Audi, Porsche)

On this basis the A5 in my opinion is worth considering. It has a bigger boot and more practical seating like the Focus/Polo and has a wide choice of engines in terms of performance (from the 2.0L TFSI up to the 4.2L V8 in the S5), there are plenty of them available within budget and it is still styled more like a coupé in keeping with the TT/RX8 as opposed to the hatchback of a Focus/Polo

It is however a stab in the dark as the OP clearly has a lot of thinking to do in terms of what type of car he wants.

This thread is bizarre, how have we gone from a diesel TT to save money on road tax to a Porsche for track use? Sounds like the op doesn't know what he wants :p

Sounds as random as one of my threads... lol

Thanks very much for your replies,

If I do a search for Coupes up to 5 years old, with a 0-60 of 0-8 seconds I'm getting the following results:

Audi A5 3.0 TDI
Audi TT
BMW 3 Series
BMW 1 Series 120 M
VW Scirocco
Vauxhall Astra GTC
Mazda MX5

However, if I open up the search terms to cars up to 8 years old, I do get more listings for the Audi TT and the Z4 Coupe.

I would rather stretch my budget than go for a car that is as old or nearly as old as my RX8. I guess I'm being snobbish about the registration plate year, but I would like to go for something newer than 2007 if I'm honest.

But, the Audi TTS is a bit out of reach. By the looks of it they go for £14-£15000 on average, which is slightly higher than my budget..but may be possible at a stretch.

The reviews for the BMW 1-Series M aren't great - the biggest complaint seems to be the very hard ride unless you get adaptive suspension. For that reason, I may have to knock that one off the list unless I can be persuaded to give it a shot!

The Vauxhall Astra GTC is a nice looking car and performs well enough for me, but the interior will probably not compare to the likes of the BMW, VW, or Audi and it would be nice to buy something where a bit more effort has been made in the cabin. Might be worth looking at still though.

The biggest bugbear with the VW Scirocco does seem to be the very dated interior, with space also seeming to lack in the cabin when compared with other Coupes; such as the Audi TT. I may still look at these though.

The other models listed (apart from the Mazda MX5 due to the boot space) I'm interested in looking at though.

So I guess I've got a better idea now of what I should be looking at!

TTS don't go for '£14-15k average' at all. If anything those cars in that price range are at the bottom end of the market/early models.

The 335d coupe is probably one of the most over priced used cars in the universe, they are insane money for what is often an almost 10 year old 3 series. 2006 ones often go for well over 10k.

What about a last of the line 350Z? Slightly older than you want but would tick a fair few of the boxes.

They are very very good though. I did love mine, if only the 3 series wasn't too small.
