The DEKA Arm (prostheses)

Still bit of a pain in the ass by the looks of it, when we can connect prosthetics to the spinal cord/Motor cortex and accurately model neural information, is when it will be a worthy replacement for a limb.

The biggest problem with prosthetics is how you couple them with the users body.

That looks jolly uncomfortable. extended use will almost certainly result in pressure sores!

All true, but main point is how far things have advanced in the last few years and it will be interesting to see what the near future holds for those needing help with this.

Such fantastic progression.

There is a documentary somewhere about this arm. The guy lost his arm and had a prosthesis that was pretty pliable.

He went to the US and tested this arm for the program but couldn't afford to go on the waiting list for it personally.

He's was so lost after trying it and then putting his old arm back on that wasn't half as functional. Could see he was heartbroken. Tough watch.

Amazing tech! Hope it goes to live trials soon enough. In the long run this will improve the same way all the tech we have currently was ridiculously clunky to start with.

Go you intelligent beings!
