Hi there

Drones are becoming the latest hype, I am seeing more and more of them, friends buying etc. and our sister company www.caseking.de are actually selling 100's of them.

So my question is who here has a Drone? Who is considering buying a Drone and if so which ones have you being looking at? If linking to drones please link to them only on manufacturer sites and not other webshops.

I find the DJI seem to be rather amazing as are very high quality with incredible cameras and software, check them out:

What do you guys think of the DJI drones?

As an avid R/C vehicle enthusiast I've been considering a drone/quad/hexcoptor for a while. Those DJI look pretty well engineered, but I'd much rather a kit that I have to build for myself.

I'm buying a drone this week. It's a quadcopter, with a HD camera, that can run for a few hours after charging, all for £30, so why not? From a popular online retailer.

My brother is buying one too. The idea is we're going to strap a pin on the end of a stick to the quadcopters, and stick three balloons to each quadcopter and try to burst each other's balloons. Essentially it's Mario Kart battle mode but with quadcopters. The HD camera should make for interesting movies.

It could go horribly wrong - they could collide mid air, fall, and break.

I would really like one but they're so expensive for a decent one, plus i'm massively skint from building a house. I've used my friends DJI Phantom and it's incredible but you then need a decent gopro and a decent gimball to stabilize the video and some decent goggles to view through the camera so you're looking at around at around a grand for a worth while setup

This was shot with my mates Phantom but with my old Gopro Hero2 and no gimball and the footage is quite shaky as a result. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YACtvs2wIqI

The virtually unregulated proliferation of 'drones' horrifies me from an aviation safety point of view as well as a security one, so no, drones do not interest me.

I don't see the appeal until they can follow you autonomously with little effort like that Lily drone thing. would be good for action sports where having a go pro attached to your helmet/body/board etc looks rubbish.

Essentially having your own robot cameraman would be great for snowsports and even indoor sports as long as collision detection was up to scratch.

I wouldn't really be interested in a manual one and can imagine it being like a go pro in that you buy it and then realise that you don't regularly/ever do anything exciting enough to film.

I'd love one but as others have said, don't want to pay £1000. Plus, don't you have to go in to an open area with no houses ? Sod that, I'd like to just fly around my estate, looking down on everyone below.

What's fun about going into a field to fly around when you can only see grass and tress ?

I did see a video online a while ago about someone in New York City who was using it from his balcony to fly around midtown during the day. Ended up hitting a building and falling on to the street below.

We've got a DJI Inspire 1 at work and a Phantom 2.

I'd love to get one for myself, but in due course. I'm trying to get my operators licence, despite not doing commercial work.

I cannot post the images from work unfortunately - but have already posted several times in the thread in GD about UAVs.

What is the difference between the two buddy?

The difference between the Phantom 2 and the Inspire is huge.
Inspire has a HD video downlink with the ability to control the camera settings from the ground from your iPad or Android tablet.
The Phantom 2 carries a GoPro and you have to set the camera up before you fly. You can get FPV with that setup but you need additional equipment such as a screen etc.

As posted in the other thread, I have an Inspire as well as a DJi S900 loaded up with the A2 flight controller, iOSD, FPV video downlink, and carrying a Sony Nex 5 camera.

They are all very nice.

just a shame if you are caught taking pics of a football or race event you will have it shot down and face a massive fine lol
