On the work notice board today, company profit, bonuses!

Had another read of the memo today. Staff between 3 and 10 years get 50% and those over 10 years get 100%. The only thing no one knows is what that percentage is of. It's also the first time the company has done a bonus like this so nobody knows what to expect.

At our place you just have to have been there for the full previous year, 3 years is a bit much, if you've been there for the entire year then surely you've contributed to the results of the company. Also I bet the directors don't have to have been there for 3 years to get their bonus

congrats your* getting a bonus, we made a huge profit last year thank you.

*Must have survived Ebola and the plague to qualify

I got a £500 bonus about 12 days after starting a new job once. Everything else about the job was horrid but the money and bonus culture was good

Was at my current place for 4 months when the christmas bonus was given out.

Got pulled into a meeting with my boss who handed me a piece of paper and said congrats

:confused: -> :eek: -> :D

I wasn't expecting anything and fully understood why if they didn't want to but nice surprise anyway :)

Couldn't resist. :D

That does seem like quite harsh criteria. It would make more sense to reward all staff who participated in the success of that fiscal year. However, it is the company's discretion to place whatever criteria they like against a non contractual bonus payment.

Our bonuses are pro-rated but are paid 3 months after the end of the year, and if you leave before the end of that payment month you get nothing. Quite healthy bonus this year as we doubled our growth target. :D

I reckon they had a decision to make - either give everyone a really tiny bonus, give everyone who'd been around 1+ years a slightly less tiny bonus, or give everyone who'd been around 3+ years a decent bonus, and did that.

There's nothing more deflating IMO than handing out a bonus that's utterly pathetic. When I worked in retail I once got a 28p bonus for the month.

well a bonus would normally be a % of your annual salary... rather than a % of some set amount paid to everyone

but unless you directly generate revenue for the company then 50-100% bonus is very unlikely, so presumably it is some token amount of which some people get the full amount and others get half... while the majority get 0

does indeed seem like they've got no clue what they're doing here but have decided to share some profits with the staff in a very cack-handed way

Just to play devils advocate here, but it can take years to transform a company to be really profitable. Perhaps they want to reward those who weathered the bad to help make it good?

1%! that hardly worth putting any effort in to achieve (given you can wave goodbye to some of that to tax)

5% here before modifiers then modified by personal achievement and then profitability of the part of the company I'm in - came out at x1.45 of bonus this year
