Crew divert transatlantic flight to save dog.

Pilot did absolutely the right thing. I would have been prepared to be delayed for as long as it took to get it sorted so that the poor pup was safe.

If I was the pilot I'd just swap seats of the dog and the moaning passengers, see how they like it.

Good PR move by the captain tbh...

the dog should/could have traveled in the cabin though it seems if the owners had got their **** together

Only assistance animals can travel in the cabin as far as I know. Because they're trained not to **** and **** all over the place. Regular pets go in the hold.

Which moaning passengers? None of the articles I've read said any passengers were moaning

Dosent surprise me one bit, about 2 hours into a flight from Hawaii to LA an elderly gentleman took ill and the Captain announced we would be returning to Honolulu airport, some prople were making a huge fuss already asking the flight crew if they will be compensated as this would add 4 plus hours to the journey! The poor old boy past away about 30mins before landing. The woman next to me said "he was going to die anyway, now i have missed my connection to Seattle for nothing" I was ashamed to be apart of the human race that day.

So airline screws up and puts a dog where it shouldn't be causing a delay that could have been avoided if the airline had done it's job properly. This lead to some people wanting compensation. Seems reasonable to me or did I miss something?

I wouldn't have minded being delayed if it meant saving a dogs life. A person on the other hand....

Those seeking compo must have been American or Chavs because that's something that they'd do. Pilot is extraordinary knowing what he was carrying and how the heating malfunction would endanger the dog's life. I'd give him an aviation award because he has a heart or would you want a pilot who has none and fly your plane straight into mountains.

I think once you know that your actions will cause the death of an animal, it would be hard and to a degree inexcusable to carry on.

Wouldn't surprise me if the requests for compensation have been overblown a bit, and many will just be trying it on (who wouldn't want a few hundred quid?), and besides the positive PR probably outweighs the costs.

The airline did do it's job properly. Animals go in the hold, where this dog was.

Exactly. Some people are more bothered about any compensation they can get unfortunately.

You can't really say that without knowing the exact travelling details, arrangements and plans of all the passengers trying to claim compensation. Its not unfeasible for delays to affect connection flights and for people to miss appointments, talks and seminars because of it. What if you were the key speaker and this resulted in you not being able to make it because the next connecting flight was a day later?
