So try make a long story short

i have a OCZ ModxStream 700W PSU but i lost my 8pin PCI-E cable near a year ago and i been using a 6pin to 8pin connector and a molex to 6pin. but this has been annoying me just on the fact how ugly it is so i went to make my own cable

First i brought a 8pin PCI-E extension cable and the port that would fit to my PSU so i cut one end off and connected it to my the bit that goes in to the PSU. Got it all together i followed the cable layout my PSU says and i plugged it in and turned my PC on and it made a weird noise and it just wouldn't turn on at all

Now the PC won't turn on when the Graphic Card is plugged in with cables

i then noticed the 8 pin PCI-E cables i brought the bit that goes in the graphic card was wrong so because of that the 12v rails went in the ground ones?

Should i take it i just bricked my graphic card or is there a way i could test?

I was thinking that myself just trying get my hands on a spare once most my friends don't have gaming PC's.

Just really hope i haven't killed it :(

You made your own modular cable for the PSU?

Did you follow the pinout for the PSU?

Shouldn't have been that difficult if you follow the wire colors. The OP does say the original 8-pin is different so I guess he couldn't have got a wire wrong. Upload an image of the cable you made OP?

So i brought this cable off ebay

I cut the female side off and added the connector which fits my PSU like this

i plugged it in thinking it would be ok as i followed the layout which is on my PSU side turned PC on makes a weird noise for if half a second and PC just won't turn on at all no fans spin or nothing so i looked at the cables and noticed that the end that goes in the graphic card is wired different then my 6Pin cable so i rewired it so it is the same like this

I know it is my own fault for not double and triple checking but i thought the cable i brought off ebay would be wired right the first picture that is

That last pic looks correct for an 8-pin pcie connector. As long as the yellow(+12V) wires connect to yellow on the psu side then you should be ok. IF the 12V goes into the black wires (GND) side of the gpu then it would cause a short and could damage or shutdown the psu/gpu. Did you try the old molex to pcie connector again?

sadly i lost the 6pin to 8pin converter so ill only have 2 6 pin cables if i use the molex =/ and i don't think that would work would it?

Before assuming your card is dead you must get a proper cable to test with. Check on an auction site for a cheap one.

i am asking around to see if anyone close to me will just let me put it in there PC to check it ha just brought mad max 2 days before i did this as well.

Yes checking in another pc is the best way but still buy a cable to test though.

So today i took the card apart to cleaned it and i just thought i would try it once more.. no weird noise or anything the fans spin but no display and when i plug screen in to motherboard and go in windows it doesn't show up? is the card dead or is the cable just not giving it enough power?
