Just purchased a 980GTX (running off a 4690k Z97 mobo 16GB ram)

I'm wondering if g-sync is worth the extra $$$$. I'm currently only on a Dell U2414 IPS Panel, which has excellent image quality... on my current soon to be changed 7950, I always just use v-sync and for most things i throw at it, its silky smooth (just the way i like it!!), never ever use vsync off, as the screen tearing is so unbearable, makes the game feel jaggy and jerky imho. Personally could never understand the peeps that kept it off...

Anyway, though i personally cannot feel any mouse lag, or vsync lag, i'm sure there must be something for everyone to put up with the tearing.....

So is it worth investing in an IPS gsync panel? I know they don't come cheap !

G-Sync was a game changer for me. Sure it is more expensive than Freesync but it just bloody well works. If you can afford it, buy it.

Are there any compatibility issues with older games? Are new games optimised for gsync ?

What settings do you have ingame for 99% of the titles that were developed before gsync was even thought of ? vsync off presumably and then g-sync does its own thing ?

I hope we don't go forwards with two competing standards like this. VHS/Betamax all over again.

I'd love a g/free sync monitor, but I'm not going to lock myself in to one brand of gfx card. It's madness.

Why do people keep saying VHS / Betamax... I bet half the squids on here have no idea what betmax is...

I think a more relevant format war would be HD-DVD vs Bluray as that was only 8yrs ago or so...

All the xbox underdog fanboys yelling the loudest that HD-DVD was the best thing since sliced bread.... Whilst the Bluray owners sat back quietly and let the PS3 and majority of the movie industry take it all in for the win.

I'm glad Bluray won. Imagine having to say HD-DVD. It's so awkward. Too many Cilla balls.

At least g sync/free sync doesn't have that problem. Makes it harder to choose a side, tho.

Any type of adaptive sync is awesome, I've tried both AMD's and Nvidia's, To me there was no difference but if you have the money buy an adaptive sync display, It's a treat for the eyes :)

The problem isn't that either tech is not worth buying, the problem is that by buying either you lock yourself in to a single gpu vendor.

Most of us don't want to do that.

Very true, It's a shame Nvidia charge such a premium for their scaler, It would be good if all monitors had both implemented then as you say we wouldn't be locked to 1 vendor.

Yes.

Could never go back to gaming without G-SYNC (Or other such technology).

With it is buttery smooth. Without it, even at 100FPS, the game feels like a stuttery horrible mess.

I would love to try >60Hz and G-Sync, but my problem is I like 21:9 aspect ratio far too much.
