New Servers

On a side note what exactly was upgrade server side ?

+1 would be interesting to know what has changed (even if you can only give the "before" details would be good)

Does seem very snappy now though - and as much as I hate to say it, would rather have old software and the forums be quick, rather than update to something newer and it be slower.

Newer software won't be slower. Technology has moved on a lot since this version of vbulletin was current. This version of vbulletin will be optimised towards legacy hardware.

Newer software won't be slower.

Most newer scripts tend to be quite bloated - you're talking hundreds or even thousands of SQL queries per page load as well as loads of file includes. Older software tends to be more forgiving because it's written in a way to be sympathetic to older CPUs (i.e. less queries, or, a 'flatter' table layout, for less table joins).

Maybe so, but my thinking is that this version of vBulletin is from the days before mobile computing was really a proper thing.

Slower than ever for me now?

I never had speed issues with this site before upgrade at all and never considered it to be slow in the slightest.

This is fine by me - wish all sites were this quick - I thought is was my connection that was giving me pages that froze or loaded slow.

Well done OCUK :):):)

Need NPower to do same -- I am sure they are still on dial up.
