Id g-sync worth it?

Hmm. Is everybody in this thread happy to be forever on team green? Were you before? I mean, are you now less likely to buy an AMD gpu or wouldn't you buy AMD products before? No need to give reasons, just curious about whether buying GSync monitor has made you nV fans, or if you were nV fans anyhow, and GSync is just the obvious choice.

I’ve mainly owned nVidia GPU’s but that’s not due to any loyalty or love for the company, I actually dislike how nVidia operate as a business. But on the several occasions I’ve tried out an ATI/AMD card they have just not worked, or been a poor experience.

End of the day I want to turn my PC on and have it work, and that’s happened more often with nVidia hardware, and AMD are no saints either.

As for G-Sync, I love it, it works, and if that means I’m tied to the green side for a few years until I buy my next monitor then so be it, when the time comes to 'upgrade' I will probably buy the monitor that goes best with whichever GPU's I have.

I refuse to buy any FS/GS monitor until I am able to use any brand of GPU with said sync feature, not going to be locked into a certain brand or/and have to upgrade my monitor when I will likely be changing my GPU every 1 or 2 years. Whatever my next monitor is, I will likely be keeping it for at least 4 years like all my previous screens.

IMO it is only a matter of time until gsync becomes a niche thing like nvidia's 3d stuff and "adaptive sync" becomes the mainstream/go-to choice for sync technology.

I don't get why people whine about being "locked in" when it comes to G-Sync. If I buy a Z170 Motherboard, then I accept that I won't be using it for an AMD CPU 2 years later.

Who cares?

I buy a set of components that work the way I want them to work together, and if I want things to work differently further down the line then I'll swap them out accordingly.

It's the King of syncing refresh rates. As Bret would say, its the best there is, best there was, best there ever will be.

I had a ROG Swift, few problems with it and the TN screen is awful, went back to my VA Dell and I'm itching to go back to G-Sync.

Thats not a fair comparison. A CPU/MB will last much longer than a GPU upgrade will.
Compare Sandy too latest Intel not much in it. Now compare a GPU from back then to a GPU now quite a massive jump.

I agree with Nexus this Tech should be open for all us to use with any GPU we choose to buy.

You have owned an AMD GPU and Freesync Display? Thought you would never own a AMD GPU?

Monitors especially tend to be replaced less often than gpus.

Even cpus/mobos are typically replaced less often than gpus. A lot of people like to change gpu yearly, or every two years. That's much more often than a monitor. People expect high-end monitors to last 5 years or more.

That means you either resign yourself to upgrading your monitor on the same cycle as your gpu (expensive), or resign yourself to a single gpu brand for the life of you monitor.

Do you have the cash to splash out on a new monitor every time you upgrade your gpu? If yes, do you think that's normal, even here?

Love G-Sync, a total game changer for me, I wouldn't go back to a standard v-sync screen now. As to being locked in, well if AMD had done anything worth while over the past few years it might have been an issue.

I don't have great eyesight and struggle with motion - the combination of both a high refresh rate and g-sync have made playing games a lot more pleasurable for me.

I'm still hesitant to jump on a G-sync monitor because I don't want to be stuck with Nvidia. Nothing against Nvidia, I'm not a hater, but I'd like to at least have options.

You are quite correct in having options but if you buy a freesync monitor to keep your options open, you are limiting yourself to AMD. AMD do Freesync and Nvidia do G-Sync, so it is one or the other really.

I haven't tried Freesync or seen one in action but there was an article that had users testing both and an interesting read.

Why are you stuck with Nvidia ? If you buy an AMD gpu will the monitor suddenly stop working lol

Does FreeSync not work?

Curious as about to pre order a FreeSync monitor.

I am sure it does work. You have to make sure you get one with decent ranges, as some of them are rubbish. 45 to 60 fps and similar is pretty rubbish, so I would avoid those.
