I'm looking to get myself a new graphics card. I was wondering if anyone is currently running a gtx970 on a 3440x1440 screen and could tell me know it does in a few games.

I usually play

DotA 2
WoW
Diablo 3
Guildwars 2
Rocket League
Bioshock Infinite
HotS

but would be interested in playing other titles like

Witcher 3
Metal Gear Phantom pain etc

Thanks in advanced

I did use a 970 on a 2560x1440 res screen and it coped well with a couple of games on your list. Don't expect to run max details though in the tougher games (TW3 etc) but a 980Ti would struggle if going for max details at that res :)

Most of those games will be fine though.

I imagine it will be fine for some of those but for more demanding games like Witcher 3 or GTA V it will struggle and require a lot of settings to be dropped.

980Ti is the perfect GPU for 3440x1440 imo. With the 970 you may have to knock some later games down to Medium
Or likely even accept 30-40fps framerates in some titles. With some modern games, there's only so much performance you can claw back with dropped settings before you're truly getting into ugly territory, defeating some of the purpose of investing in a fancy hi res monitor.

I agree, 980Ti for 2560/3440x1440 is ideal. Wouldn't recommend anything less unless you're not very sensitive to lower performance.

Yeah sounds good. So my choice is to buy a GTX970 for £260 and play newer games at medium or pay £600 for a GTX 980ti and play games at nearly ultra graphics.

Think ill go GTX970 for now and then see how Pascal looks.

3440 by 1440 go for 390. You will have more flexibility with tuning settings and can double up further down the line without worrying about Vram if the games you play support it.

well it all depends on how many fps you want / feel comfortable playing with i cant play under 60fps so i would not recommend the gtx970 @ 3440.

I definitely think the 390 is better than the 970 out of the two, especially for 3440x1440. If you did consider adding a card later on down the line to improve settings and performance you may find the ram on the 970 becomes a limitation, I'm unsure how much the 3.5/.5 thing would limit it but the fact it only has a total of 4 may be an issue at such a high res further down the line. I also think the 390 will be the more popular second-hand purchase in a few years time.

Agreed, though be warned 390 series GPU's have some problems with DX11 games when using Windows 10, though this is likely to be fixed very soon.
