Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor – U3415W

I got one recently (about a month ago) absolutely love it. I did read something about making sure you get an A01 revision as they are less likely to have backlight bleed. I have to confess I haven't actually checked which rev. mine is, but there isn't really any noticeable bleed on it.

Having never used a high Hz monitor, I can't say if you'll regret it or not, I came from a basic 60Hz 1080p IPS monitor and the difference is amazing, but in your case you may miss the 144Hz.

I have one (came from a 27" Acer B276HK, 3840x2160 monitor) and I love it.

It's genuinely the best monitor I have ever used, but I have never used >60Hz or technologies such as FreeSync and G-Sync so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. From what I have heard people don't like going back to 60Hz after 144Hz, as there's a dramatic improvement in fluidity from the latter, but for me it was a case of not being able to miss something I have never had.

The curve is so subtle and I think it compliments the monitor perfectly, I think without the curve it would look a bit strange really. You don't notice the curve until you step away to take a look at it. The sheer size of a monitor would be huge compared to a 24" 1080p monitor, too.

All I can advise is for you to try running your monitor at 60Hz and see if you 'like' (I guess 'can get used to' would be a better phrase) using 60Hz again. I'd imagine it'd be quite the drop.

Another thing to consider is what graphics card you have, and how it copes at 1440p, reduce that number a bit and see if you are comfortable with getting those types of FPS in games.

The only thing putting me off getting one of these is the lack of adaptive sync.

I have a Asus Swift with 144hz and G-Sync and while I'd be happy to run at 60hz giving up G-Sync is a no no.

I tried running my monitor recently without G-Sync on and it was painful. As long as the games you play run at a steady 60fps then it's not a problem but for me and the main game I play (ESO) having a frame rate that goes from the high 20's all the way to 144 I need something that can give me a smooth experience whatever it's running at.

Another owner. Absolutely love mine. I don't use mine for gaming though however.

see I've never used g sync or freesync so I'm not worried about that. I'll run my current monitor at 60hz and see how i cope. I'm hoping this monitor will be the perfect mix between entertainment and productivity.

I had one for about a week when my sammy was getting looked at, but had horrible light bleed, glad I got my sammy one back. My older 2913 seemed better.
They may have updated it since it came out so might be fine now

one thing to mention about this - although you're driving 2.4x more pixels, you only need to drive them at 2.4x less speed

If you're getting the 144Hz your monitor can take with your current setup, you shouldn't be too far off the 60Hz at the higher res

What GPU do you have?

i currently have a 290x 4gb but i am going to buy a 980ti at the same time as the monitor.

that should be ok right?

I use a 980Ti with mine and it's a match made in heaven really. 3440x1440 is just about optimal for a 980Ti @ 60Hz.

Ultrawide is awesome. Not going back to 16:9.

I have the Dell 3415 and it's Rev A01, also bought a 980ti to go with it and it is indeed the perfect match for that res. Can max out all the latest games with it. Productivity is amazing. I write and record music on Ableton, Studio One and Reason and it has improved my workflow no end! Was never a fan of dual monitor setups so this is a great alternative.

That will be absolutely fine, I have a 970 and get decent fps with most settings high/ultra

thanks for all the help guys i know i might seem a bit of an idiot but i haven't followed anything computer wise in about 3 years since i last built my system, i thought that it would all work fine but just wanted to double check.

again thank you all

So close to pulling the trigger on this monitor but not sure my system will power it adequately

what do you guys think?

I run a MSI Radeon R9 290X LE Lightning Edition 4096MB with a Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz, OC'ed to 4.0 GHz with 8 Gig of ram.

anymore info on the system required?

Thanks

Can the peeps bought their monitor post up their settings? I am experimenting with different settings to get the most out of this monitor.

The standard mode was okay but colours looked washed out and the multimedia was way over saturated so colours didn't look natural. Tried 6500k which seemed to be inbetween standard and natural. Fiddled with contrast and brightness and that seems more to me liking.
