How far is this VW thing going to go?

This might be the perfect push the industry needs to get electric moving full steam ahead. Personally a drive a petrol, always have always will unless electric becomes a realistic alternative.

Yeah, electric hybrids with small petrol engines is where we are going. Im sure it was BMW who said they can see their whole range been made up of small tri turbo petrol engines with electric motors. Don;t forget that although petrolol engines can pass the NOX part of Euro 6, they now have harder targets to meet as well.

Porsche has already started building petrol cars with start/stop in order to reduce the pollution figures.

The target for CO2 by 2021 is to have all cars producing a maximum of 95g/km.

Pretty much this.

Car TAX will shoot up probably after this, but I cannot see Diesel cars disappearing anytime soon!

I can. Euro 6 makes diesels even more expensive than petrol equivalents in the range, petrols have made massive gains on fuel economy, a new diesel from now onwards will have adblue to buy for at service so service costs increase.

If the govt taxes diesels more because of this then I can see more people moving over to diesel.

its about 50/50 atm I think.

If the stories about the dangers of NOx really start gaining traction then I do wonder what the future will be for diesel. Who wants a car that poisons babies to death?

That'll have more effect than any story about dodgy manufacturers.

dude in your petrol is benzine, 5ppm is your daily limit. its shown to cause leukaemia but dont worry it replaced the lead in fuel which screwed up your brain. There is no clean fuel for cars at the moment bar electric.

You've completely missed my point there, haven't you?

It doesn't matter what's in other fuel, or what's in Diesel, even. What matters is the perception. If the media keeps plugging the dangers of Diesel, that will have a knock-on effect.

The way I read it is that VW DO have Adblu tanks but in order to prevent/negate users needing to constantly top it up (Our trucks use 10 litres MIN every night) skulduggery has been employed to only switch on Adblu injection when an emissions test is detected.

I could be wrong but I can't see how they could comply without Urea injection !

Last time I checked, electric was still generated somewhere (hint: renewables don't cover our existing demands, let alone all the vehicles on our roads)

And that is always a silly argument when ever it's wheeled out.
For a start some of the grid is renewable.
Secondly the grid is far more efficient, and as well as being far more efficient far easier to capture undesirables at large power stations, than millions if cars.

There us choice when it comes to electric though. You can use a renewable source (solar panels, wind turbine) or get your electricity from a company like Ecotricity, where they produce most of their power from renewable sources.

Ive seen it said it needs 42 million diesel cars to produce the same NOX as one coal fired powersation and we have 15 in this country at last count............

Reducing NOX in cars, apart from maybe making slight localised differences, will do diddly squat overall. It just looks like governments are doing something. If they were really concerned at reducing NOx levels they should close all the col powered power stations. Would slash the amount produced by more than 50%

So Britain and the US have to step in to stop the Germans gassing millions of people yet again? :p

Bloody Funny !!

I heard deepwater horizon wasn't an oil leak...it was just someone starting up their Golf.
