hi guys, I have this card for 2 weeks now, theres a buzzing sound when i run 3d mark, also in games but not as loud. The higher the load on gpu the louder the sound. I had a r9 390x msi before this and i had no buzzing.Any fix for this as ***********.uk said they will not rma unless its happening with a platinum rated psu.
My specs are msi gaming 5 z97 mb,gi gtx 980ti,i7 4790k,coolermaster g750m psu.I traced sound to gpu.

heres video

video makes it sound a bit louder, but it i very noticable when fans are at low spped on gpu

That my friend is coil whine, I've had it on two PSUs (Corsair CX750 and SuperFlower Leadex Gold 850W), and on 3 Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming cards...

Do you have a different PSU to test with at all? - Although I suspect the card will whine on most, if not all PSUs.

I'm not sure why OcUK are now so reluctant to RMA coil whining cards, as I believe Gibbo stated that if it is audible on an open test bench they will replace it.

thye said they dont rma gpu unless i am using a platinum rated psu,i was not getting coil whine on the r9 390x,from what i read on forums, the g1 coilwhine seems to be common.I have no other psu,i wouldnt mind investing in new psu,but if problem stil exists it will be waste of money

Why are they insisting on a platinum rated PSU ?

All the platinum bit means is the PSU runs more efficiently with the current it draws from the wall socket. The current going into a GPU should be identical regardless of what the rating of the PSU is.

I have a lot of platinum rated PSUs and my 290Xs are only too happy to whine connected to any of them.:D

I don't know loads about PSUs so if there is anyone who can throw more light on this subject please do.:)

Exactly what Kaap said. The only logic I can see is OcUK assuming platinum PSU = a good brand, however if I got denied RMA because my SuperFlower is only Gold I would not be a happy customer.

Make a post in CS section, I'm sure Bailey would help you out.

Didn't it used to be that you needed a Gold rated PSU? Guess that's changed again, sadly feels like a reason to weasel out of RMAs. Personally i'd just demand they replace it and start making noise until they do.

That coil whine is pretty bad, you should definitely get a replacement. I'm staggered that they told you "Sorry it's only a Gold PSU", Gold rated PSUs are still very efficient. As Kaap said though, that is totally irrelevant to the current that the card is being supplied.

A bad review on trustpilot also gets OcUK's attention as they want to be seen to have great customer service... you should try the CS section of the forum before you do that though.

On cards that cost as much as the 980Ti there should be no coil whine. There are plenty of ways in which manufacturers can reduce it, guess they save a few pennies by not doing anything about it.

i have a gigabyte 980ti g1, it didnt coil whine but made my PSU coil whine , the PSU coolermaster silent pro 850 it was loud, then tried Corsair HX1000i and EVGA 850 G2, these also whine but much less, just slight buzz, when start playing with fans spinning up and sound of game i cant hear it, but on my older coolermaster psu it was quite loud and would never have lived with that

can you track source of noise, PSU or Graphics card ? use a tube to pin point the sound, my card doesnt coil whine at all, it makes the PSU coil whine

Use the web note system as correspondence rather than calling them if you haven't.

Tell them to take the card back and have them test it on their open test rig for coil whine, send them your videos, also include one with your side panel off.

Don't be fobbed off with the whole you need a gold/platinum PSU, it's a rubbish excuse at most.

Again, avoid calling them, instead use the cutomer service web note section of this forum.

as I believe Gibbo stated that if it is audible on an open test bench they will replace it.

This is true
