Dumb, inconsiderate Britain plunges to new depths

Not really sure why the guy couldn't reverse in a straight line. Personally I would have made gestures but just moved and let him go.

Fair play to her, the old duffer shouldn't be on the road. She must have big balls too, not budging an inch even with a bunch of chavs surrounding her car, I don't think I'd have had the nerve.

Yeah but even if he was an old duffer, I'd have rather just given in after about 30 secs than sit there for 40 mins????

Do we genuinely have any OCUK GD'ers that can last 40 mins????

From the article it states He was ¾ of the way through before she turned up.
Guys already three quarters of the way through the tunnel when she entered. Moron gunna moron.
isn't 3/4 of the way though is just where they happened to come to a stop?

Unless he was going super slow 3/4 doesn't matter.

Also I think it's about time old chap's license is revoked since he cant manage to reverse straight.

Regardless of who was there first, they should both be fined for inconsiderate driving.
The right of way issue pales into insignificance considering they both then proceed to block a road for 40 mins for no good reason.

I had to chuckle when someone said 'please think of the children!'.

Wouldn't this fall under obstructing the public highway...surely the police would have attended, did no one report it?

Penalty for wilful obstruction.

(1)If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding [F1level 3 on the standard scale].

I'm sure she'd have been less willing to argue semantics with a police officer.

Regardless, it's utterly moronic. Wasting 40 minutes of yours and everyone else's time to prove a pathetic point.
I'm usually very quick to yield to other drivers, even if I technically have right of way - it's much quicker and easier than arguing about it.

If you have a need to be "right" every where you drive you'd never get anywhere... or you'd end up crashing every other day.

Sometimes even if you're in the right you just have to swallow your pride a little bit and be the bigger man (or woman, in this case).

You are all missing the point guys.

It's very likely she didn't know how to reverse, either :-)

Mexican standoff! I don't really think she cared that much (who would, FFS? Especialy with a mob breathing down your neck), but she must have been as embarrassed as he was..

Just idiots being idiotic.
Not exactly newsworthy, but I suppose if you read the Daily Mail, you're likely to have a skewed idea of what is.

This could easily be prevented with a traffic light at the tunnel.

Either way neither of them clearly had anything better to do with their time. Perhaps the woman did have right of way, but she could have just easily have reversed out and called the man an idiot for not being able to drive properly.

There's also the fact the guy clearly couldn't drive, so shouldn't have been behind the wheel.

And i'm amazed at how idiotic the public were, surely after 5 mins you could see neither party were planning to budge so you'd call the police.

I don't agree with the traffic light idea, partly because people should be able to negotiate such obstacles, or not be granted a license, but moreso it would be better value for the tax payer to have people like this made and example of, with heavy fines and short term bans.

I don't know how much a traffic light installation costs, but there's consultation, planning etc, I imagine it's not cheap.

Put this at one end of the tunnel:

Job done.

This, I too routinely allow people to complete manouvers that impinge on my "Right of way" (like passing parked cars*) without making an issue about it

(*And by that I mean allow them to "complete" rather than forcing them to pull into the gap one car back from the end of the line)

It doesn't matter whether the Man ignored the priority instructions or not. Clearly the Woman entered the tunnel while he was actually already in it.

This puts her firmly in the wrong!
