Do you reckon all the cocks in the outside lane of the motorway will now switch back to BMW's?
If its like anything I had today on the M5, they already have

Pandora's box is open. BMW now implicated as the X3 fails test by being 11 times over the legal limit for NOx.
That's not the same issue. The fact that diesel cars have been found to be many times over the limit for emission of certain pollutants has been known for a while, and completely ignored.

There are loads of theories about this, the more logical ones are:
The car goes into test mode when the traction control is turned off (which is required when putting a car on a rolling road).
The car goes in to test mode when an OBD reader is connected.
The car goes in to test mode when the bonnet is open.
I'm looking at new cars, the diesels have the lowest CO2 emissions and therefore cheapest road tax. But then I read articles like this - makes you think again whether it's the right thing to do.

It wasn't an issue until the government realised how much money they are losing out on in car tax.diesel cars have been found to be many times over the limit for emission of certain pollutants has been known for a while, and completely ignored.
You should never buy a new car based on the cost of VED.![]()
Well I meant nearly new or possibly lease. Like many of us I care about the climate but also want a car that will appeal to moderately attractive human females with low expectations.
My point was that VED is such a tiny proportion of the total ownership cost that it's not worth considering with most cars, new or used.

Oh right - I know it's illogical but I'm passionate about avoiding tax so I have more money for beer.
Taxed beer, unless you homebrew which still is on supplies?
Rather amusing geeky parallels to back when it emerged NVIDIA drivers picked up on 3dmark being used and did some shenanigans to improve test results.
I suspect it will turn out to be "most" diesels and also that there has been cheating going on with petrol cars too.
I think this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Switzerland has now banned the sale of vw diesels.
