As title, had a smart meter installed, now when the power goes to the off peak tariff the power cuts, it doesn't come back on until the on peak tariff resumes. Sound like something the installer did wrong (as was working fine with old meter) or something that needs adapting on the wiring side?

Had my meter changed a little while ago and the off peak was disconnected, he did though reconnect some cables, I suspect your technician wasn't fully trained. Get them back to fix it immediately.

Andi.

I guess that makes off-peak even cheaper.

Major fubar. Call whoever fitted it and tell them; tell them you're losing power overnight and food is spoiling, no lighting, no heat, hot water, etc.

It's their responsibility to fix it; don't you try it. As you're going 'off supply' they should come out right away.

BG currently don't fit smart meters to multi-rate installations (E7).

To satisfy my own curiosity - Do you have a 4 terminal meter and separate timer/switch? Or a 5 terminal, multi-rate meter?

Was all fixed in the end, the guy who installed the new meter was sent back and after 5-6 hours got everything sorted lol. It was a two rate meter with radio teleswitch connected, not sure what's there now (haven't looked). Guy was speaking to someone on the phone about "too many neutrals", not sure he had actually installed a smart meter at a property with peak/off peak before lol.

The old meter/teleswitch were "property of Eastern Electricity Board" which means they were installed prior to 1990 so must have been old, the red/black wires prob confused the poor kid too lol.

We're trained to effectively ignore, well, that's a strong word, perhaps...'take with a pinch of salt'...the colour of the wires until our tests have proved what is what. Then we label them ourselves and frequently replace old cable with up to date colours and diameters, as it's easier than mixing and matching/re-using what's there.

5-6 hours is a shocking amount of time to take on one job. I'm really curious to know what company he was with and what he did/has done. Any chance you could post a picture? I'll be honest, it's a good learning opportunity for me! ;)
