Evga RMA - 780sc dying

Hi all,

I think my 780sc is on the way out, if not already over the hill!!

It crashed during a normal session of guild wars 2. Then when Windows restarted my screen was covered in purple squares and it froze my PC?

I have formatted the pc using the igpu and tried various drivers with the card... Each time freezing during driver install with purple squares appearing. I eventually got the drivers on and the screen upon restarting flickered like crazy in Windows and it looked corrupt, like messed up and fuzzy.

I have tried the card with a different psu and tried on a different motherboard with a old amd 955 chip, same result?

The card has never overheated and stays well under the 80 threshold, normally about 68-72 while gaming.

I have just put a guest RMA request in and it shows as still having 406 days warranty, I had to do the guest one as my deceased father bought me it and I have no idea where from to obtain the invoice.

What are EVGA like for returns this way? The chappy over live chat was most helpful as I have never RMA'd anything before and explained that I am within warranty from EVGAs date of shipment as without invoice they use that.

Thanks all!

Their RMA process is good, apart from the fact that you'll have to ship the card to Germany, which is pretty expensive (especially with insurance).

Oh I never thought of that, circa £40?

I've read many good things about their RMA, just waiting for the 'step 2' email now.

I'd be happy if they could send a new 780sc out but i doubt they still have them. I really want the reference cooler as I got that deliberately over the acx cooler as my dad has a tiny case. Also don't fancy a 970 with the whole 3.5gb scenario!

*update*
Just checked its £37-£65 depending if i want a 5 day non tracked or 1 day tracked

Evga is good with RMA. They refund me partially for postage after they send me refurbish gtx 970 FTW as a replacement for 780 SC ACX

Just don't expect to get a new card, they will send out refurbished cards, as above.
Sadly i expierenced these refurbished cards may not work properly..

Contact the EVGA rep on here as I'm sure he will help you out with the postage problem mate.

Hi, just retested in another pc with a 5820k and purple patches and bsod straight away :(

I'm more than happy with a refurb as long as it works, but really want the reference cooler to match my aesthetics and silver/green theme and cables etc I spent too much on! ha

Who is the EVGA rep? Still waiting on the "step 2" part of the email but im very aware its the weekend so may be closed :)

Thanks all

I'd be happy getting a 970 refurb as a replacement for a 780, I wouldn't let the ram bother you. The amount of situations where it will actually cause a problem is virtually nil. It's a shame it wasn't a 6gb then you could have held out for a 980 as someone else on here did recently but me I'd be happy with a 970 replacement and in all honesty I'd actually be chuffed the 780 died giving me the opportunity to get the newer card.
Make sure to inform them why you originally bought reference and how you'll need a reference replacement if it is what you want. You never know reducing the replacement options may also have a positive effect:)
It is important though, especially if the case will not handle an ACX very well and you need a blower.

I used parcel monkey to ship my Titan X back to Evga, cost £43 to fully insure it. As already mentioned you will get a "recertified" card back. If you pay you can have advanced RMA where they ship you a real out first, handy if you haven't got a spare card plus you can use the box they send card in to ship your card to them.

Yeah I'd be happy with 970 I think. Just love the nvidia stock cooler and it matches my colour matched cables and sprayed my corsair af120s silver and green ring to match.
Never know, maybe got offered a stock 980?

I'll see what they offer and how much is advanced rma? Or do you buy the card in full then get reimbursed?

Hopefully I'll get a email back Monday with details on what to do :)

My evga 780ti sc died the exact same way playing Guild Wars 2, the card just decided to brick itself, purple squares and total freeze. You can run the gpu-z render test aswell it will probably do it on that. Someone esle recently on here had there evga card die the same way.

I rmad it via evga, used royal mail for about £36 and was insured up to £500 so check your local post office.

I got sent back a brand new 980 SC card (well, looks brand new, came in a evga box), very lucky I think since 780ti is end of line and no stock anywhere so they probably didn't have a choice, but will certainly be looking at evga products from now on.

Be nice if evga had a uk based rma centre. Everyone raves about their rma but forking out £40 anytime a card dies as opposed to about £8 for uk postage...=/

Every cloud then i guess! Shame i didnt push for the ti at the time then. Strange how it was the same game and same issue....

For £36 ill be happy with a 970, just needs to be a blower or stock nvidia cooler really. Dont fancy having to change my case.

Ill keep you guys posted as i think itll be monday/tuesday for my step two email

Update

Got an email accepting my rma request today. Yay!

So en route to post office now to send it off. Feel lost without my pc so just bought a evga 750ti for short term and my 2nd pc. Its suprising how well that little card performs!

Update 2

posted today via my local post office, £34 tracked via parcel force with a 2 day lead time. So hopefully have a resolution soon :)

Update again

Just got email confirmation of rma acceptance.
And shipping acceptance and they are shipping me a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0.

Wow! What a result!

Evga cards will be my first port of call from now on!
