I quite like them to be honest (don't own one sadly!)

They don't scream 'mid life crisis' as much as a Ferrari or an Aston do, to me anyway.

How are they seen? As an older persons culture car or somebody who has too much money etc?
Can't comment on the rest, but as far as they're seen - I quite like Maseratis and might consider one if I had the cash. The fact that I like some of them probably means they are a bit of an old fashioned brand, though! :D

It's not a brand I hear that much about, generally. It's all Ferraris and Porsches.
Of the two you mentioned, to me they look too similar to executive model BMWs, but then many cars are going that way these days and if I was after something along those lines I'd be looking at Aston Martin.

If I was going to get a flashy car, I'd want something that stands out from the crowd, that you can identify from a quick look... Maserati-wise, that'd be the Ghibli, Bora, or possibly that Boomerang thing!

Wheeler dealers did an episode on the 3200gt, it looked fantastic but I got the impression that they were pretty unreliable and expensive to fix.

What are they like to own? :)

I'm just curious about it as I didn't pay any attention to them so I'm a bit ignorant and looking at reviews obviously the people who have problems shout louder.

I'm thinking of the 3200GT (3.2 Twin Turbo) or 4200 (4.2 N/A) probably Spyder.

Just curious. :)

As per your other thread, I think this is one of the few cheap performance cars that could be more painful to own than a 996.

Brother has had a 4200 (kept that for 9 years) and traded it in for a Ghibli this year, I actually really like them and would jump at getting one if I had the chance.

Cheers all. I'm not really considering it but I had read up of horror stories as the 4200 uses a Ferrari 430 bottom end(?) so was curious if it was all that. 380bhp out of a N/A engine is no mean feat. :)

ps don't know if everyone elses appears out of order but my post was 1st....

I have a few friends that have had them and I think most would agree that they are **** in the main, and expensive **** more often than not. Bit general mind and suspect that's more about the 3200 sorts, if that's the right model number. I've got mates who have the newer saloon one and again the views are mixed but again, expensive is a word I hear a lot.

Ive not really added much :(

A pal has an older quatroporte and he reckons it has been pretty solid over his pretty long ownership (7 or 8 years I guess) but I don't think he leaves it wanting for much in terms of maintenance. Having had a drive in that, it's nice but I wasn't blown away by anything other than the engine.

My best friend has a 4.7 GT, lovely car but its expensive to run, he kept it 1 year and I think it needed 12k worth of bits and bobs to fix.

my dad had a 4200gt from new for about 5 years and it needed extra bits done every service. £1000+ bill once for a leaking air conditioning pipe as had to remove dash to replace said £5 part!

4200 supposedly more reliable than 3200, but loses the boomerang rear lights. engine is great fun, revs freely etc. but an expensive ongoing proposition as I cant believe they have got more reliable with age!

Seems to be a very mixed bag - I admit as soon as I saw a Maserati I thought "money pit" and would lack enjoyment but I read some owner reviews and it seemed different to my thoughts.

However you guys have backed them up.... lol

Know of somebody who changed his e60 M5 for one, thought given the 5 was costing him super car money to run he should get the real deal, found it actually worse than the 5 by a long way and now has an f10 M5 which he loves - the car he should have changed the e60 for! :p

My neighbour has one. It's great, because if I forget to set my alarm I'll almost certainly be woken up be her heading out to work right on the dot when she starts her engine :D

Haha! I hear such conflicting stories it makes it genuinely interesting! Including one who bought a starter motor from a Lancia as it was the same part number as a Ferrari one(?) for his Maeratis motor... lol

Seems some people - had them for 5yr+ years with no issues and 100% reliable and others - had them for 5yrs @ £2k a year to keep on the road....

If I had the cash I'd have a 4.7 Granturismo in a heart beat. Epic noise and utterly gorgeous.

I see a 2015 Maserati GranTurismo MC Centennial in Rosso Magma atleast 3 times a week where i work and it's beautiful to look at and listen too, would love to own one, but im short by about £120k :(

The older 3200/4200 gt looks bland to me and screams old man's car.
