NASA to make "major" Mars announcement tomorrow

We may have the tech - but I do not think we are ready with the tech yet - it'll take a good few decades for us to even be ready for this I think.

Colonising or exploring the idea of colonisation of a another planet is the next logical step in pushing the human boundaries. Why wouldn't you do it?

I wonder how humans will evolve in a few millennia living in a space colony?

We basically have the technology, it just needs working out and building. The principles are there in other systems.

If we waited to solve earths issues first we would never achieve anything.
And totally agree calling it a suicide mission is silly. It's not suicide, it's choosing life and then death somewhere else.

To me going now would be like throwing yourself at a machine gun nest in WWI. Not much to be gained through your sacrifice, and our strategy might be very different in a few decades, thanks to new technology and capability.

Frankly, at this point in time there is no compelling reason to go at all. Surely we should work on building the USS Enterprise first?

So they found water streams that had not previously been there 5 years ago.

Due to the light atmosphere, water dissipates into gas, leaving only the salt that came with it, which is what they found in the images? (did I interpret that right?)

suggests that there is water underneath and it sometimes breaks through?

some people have debunked the evidence as possible dirt streams, although if it was dirt, it wouldn't go white like that, you would see an outline, but not a change in brightness, white reflects a lot more than dust... although it makes you wonder how much salt was in the water for it to leave such an effect in the dirt :p

That they've successfully built and tested some new swanky ion drive and will build a spinship within 20 years to get humans to mars after a few months of travel.

Ship to be called Lollipop. It'll be a good un.

Found skeletons? I think this will be one of those that brings much anticipation, then everyone leaves disappointed.

I'm not really into the whole conspiracy theory jig but I do believe if they found something as significant and concrete evidence like that, that they would not make it public for fear of panic or fear of upsetting religious nutjobs.
