So the other half took a hit in her Peugeot 108 this week. :( She was parked up waiting to nip into her clients house & whilst she was in the car she was hit by a transit tipper.

The driver had tagged the passenger side of her car & left a dint in both the door sill & door, there's some nasty deep scratches too.

Now the ******** didn't stop & my other half didn't manage to get any details as she was understandably shaken up & shocked. :/ It's her first prang.

Looking at the pictures is the damage sufficient to involve the insurance? She'd stand to loose 3 Years no claims & have to pay her excess which I'm yet to check. She's 21 so any claim is going to effect her future premiums pretty hefty I'd imagine.

I wouldn't unless you have protected No Claims... to lose 3 years would be annoying... you had a quote for independant work?

Need to know the money involves first - that isn't a sill cover on the 108 is it? So it'll need pulled, skimmed and then repainted

Would depend on the excess and how many ncb would be left after the deduction buy it sounds like it'll probably be cheaper just to sort out with insurance

It's not a sill cover no, it's metal. I've just gone through her insurance documents, it's actually 2 years no claims she has at the mo, it'll be 3 years at renewal.

Compulsory excess is £390 (as she's 21) & voluntary is £200 so £590 all in. She has vandalism promise & uninsured driver promise but I guess they don't apply. Insurance is with Hastings Direct.

Oh if it makes any difference she has Class 1 insurance as she's a mobile carer.

If your estimate is £700, and you think that's high, and the excess is £600, then I can't see how it's going to wind up cheaper through the insurance company.

We'll get shopping around then, just wanted to see if anyone was of the opinion it could wind up more then £700 & be more worthwhile going through the insurance, plus I hadn't checked the excess.

Appreciate the input all. :)

The only thing that will be fun is getting that paint matched up.

Will be worth doing it yourself over the insurance so you can find a decent shop and not a typically awful one that will do insurance jobs.

You could get a smart repair on the doors and then get the cill repaired. It won't matter too much then if the colour match of the cill isn't 100%, you'll be surprised what the smart repair guys can do.

call the police and tell them of a hit and run get the crime ref number and call your insurers.your insurer * might * cover at no cost to you and without the excesses.
