Madden NFL 16

Picked this up having not played a madden game since '97 or '98 on the SNES.

Spent a couple of hours on it running through the training camp bit, initial impressions are very good.

Was thinking of buying this but spent to much money on games lately. Have you tried online yet? are the servers ok? Whats the running game like? its always been my strongest point in madden.

Not tried online at all...literally only got as far as per opening post, couple of hours getting gold on the training camp bits.

haven't played a match in solo mode yet.

Enjoy do post back with your thoughts on the game once you played more, I will rent game once my Boomerang rentals trail is over, if I enjoy it will purchased it not played madden since 09.
 
Madden 15 had a very good running game. I've only played about 10 matches on Madden 16, but it is pretty much the same to me for running, but the passing is better. It's not like the old days of running where you can get away with sprinting every time, better to wait for the blocks then hit any space in a sprint space. Option run plays need exceptional reflexes - after reading the marked defender's movement on the snap, you get a very, very small window of opportunity hand off the ball or keep it with the QB.

Online was fine for actual play on Madden 15 but the servers would frequently not allow matches to begin. Can't imagine Madden 16 would have regressed.
 
Yea, the running game is excellent. Largely because the battle between O-lines and D-lines really matter now. Holes open up naturally, you can follow blockers, and the running controls are intuitive and give you the freedom and flexibility to run how you want to run.

The passing game is super improved, but enough cannot be said about how overpowered the 'aggressive catch' is. The game does so many things right, but this single aspect basically brings the entire gameplay balance into ruin, especially against online opponents. Other than that, it's awesome. Best Madden yet.

Played my first match last night, played as the Seahawks (obviously) with difficulty on "Rookie" (while I get to grips with it) with the extended bits between plays and 7min quarters....absolutely brilliant.
Going to stick it on "Pro" tonight and see how that goes for my next match.

Presentation is very slick, very immersive, gameplay is superb...highly recommended

Thanks for the reply's guys I think I will defiantly buy this, lol at the megatron video...:eek: hopefully they can patch the aggressive catch.

The second Madden NFL 16 title update is now available. Included are improvements and fixes to Madden NFL 16 gameplay, Connected Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, and more.

GAMEPLAY

Addressed issue where if a team called a time out on the safety punt, they would then be able to kick a regular kickoff
Addressed issue where sometimes a defender would have a poor pursuit angle toward the ball carrier if the ball carrier was breaking a tackle during a catch
Addressed issue where sometimes defensive linemen would freeze for the remainder of the play after being knocked to the ground
Addressed issue where the defense would not adjust alignment if the CPU controlled offensive team enacted a concept audible
Updated Individual Coverage adjustments to not only affect the pre-snap shading but also the post play leverage technique
Addressed issue where adjusting the ZONE shading would have an effect on the defenders drop location instead of just the leverage technique
Addressed issue where cancelling a PA Fake would allow for a 1-step drop on certain plays
Addressed issue where the game clock would be restarted of a declined penalty after an incomplete pass
Addressed issue where safeties in Cover 4 Deep assignments were reacting to run too quickly

CONNECTED FRANCHISE

Addressed issue where defensive holding slider would reset when exiting the screen
Addressed issue where accelerated clock would not work in H2H CFM games
Addressed issue where visual feedback settings were pulling from the user’s profile instead of league settings
Addressed issue where some settings would carry back to the FE after playing a CFM game
Addressed issue where the CPU would retain an empty roster spot when simming to the regular season when there is a player on Injured Reserve (note: changes aren’t reflected until after your current season is finished)
Addressed issue where the user could not sort player while in the Fantasy draft board
Removed Kick Return as a scoutable trait (note: changes won’t be reflected until after your current season is finished)
CFM Trade tuning
Addressed issue in CFM H2H where uniforms would change back to default home/away even after changing them in the team select screen
Addressed a rare issue that caused some Franchise files to be corrupted, preventing players from accessing their CFM (note: this won’t repair already corrupted files, and only prevents future occurrences)

MADDEN ULTIMATE TEAM

MUT Play a Friend quarter length boosted to four minutes from two minutes
In MUT H2H Seasons and Draft Champions H2H Draft, terminating the game during the load screen will give the quitter a loss and the opponent a win. In MUT, Contracts will still be removed.

OTHER

Play Now games were using regular season overtime rules rather than playoff overtime rules (removed possibility for ties)
Addressed issue in online games where the defensive timer would run out during a pause causing the game to auto pick the defensive play
Addressed over 100 general bug and stability issues

Been playing Madden 15 the last few days (went and saw the Jets @ Dolphins). And wondering if there is much point of updating to 16? I don't really know the rosters very well apart from a few QBs so up to date rosters aren't important.

Opinions?

I Started out on Ultimate Team last might, got my goons dressed in Seahawks kit...won first two matches in rookie section...still at the base lvl I started on though! (lvl 61)

Not really understanding the Ultimate Team side of things.
Do the solo challenges and tutorial sections. Earn coins and packs. Early on, buying a Pro pack should unlock some better players for you, but their usefulness stops once you get around a 73-75 overall team. At that point, you want to start using the auction house to buy individual players. Play it smart and you can even make money on the auction house.

Also, you can do Draft Champions to earn packs by completing 3 games(you dont even need to win your last game).

It's quite addicting if you get into it. But it also takes something of a time commitment to get a properly good team going.

Probably not. It's better than 15, but if you dont care about the roster update, then the other improvements probably aren't too huge.
 
Finally go around to renting this really enjoying it so far i am finding it little bit hard to get used to having not played madden i years. The the passing options are a great addition going to keep playing the Gatorade training before i jump on online.
 
I only really play draft champions on this one. Had a great team on Madden 25 UT, but never really bothered with it on 15 and 16.

Loved the most feared weekend. had a 7ft Khalil Mack, Oline couldn't stop him.

Got like 10 Sacks that game.
