*I have not owned an outdoor cat

You don't own a cat the cat owns you.

The cat that owns me is 14 this month.

Question cat people/legal eagles: Cats are a menace to wildlife and other people's gardens, they regularly kill birds for fun and leave the remains about the place. If I buy a stoat or other small predatory animal with a taste for cats, can I be prosecuted by grieving former cat owners?

/semiserious

Cats are not property, iirc, so legally, I think it would be ok from a property point of view. (Not that I approve!)

However, I suspect you would face an animal welfare/cruelty issue if your animal killed a load of cats.

possibly. Domestic cats are protected by law and it is an offence to trap, injure or kill them. to quote the RSPB.

did the birds/wildlife debate in the other indoor cat thread though.

I think you need to find a cat forum rather than a computer forum. What a strange thread.

This isn't a computer forum.

This.... is.... GD!

You recall wrong. Cats are legally property.

wheres the option for my indoor cat died indoors

It's in option 2. Easily missed tho because I tacked it on the end.

I currently have 3 outdoor cats and they are all alive and well. Had 3 cats growing up as well and they all died of natural causes due to old age. We live on a busy road and our garden backs on to busy railway lines too.

Ive had one cat that died on the road and one that was mauled by a dog after it wandered into a garden. Both were kittens and got outside when they wern't supposed to.

Current cat is around 15 or so and is very wise and avoids road. Just chills in the sun in the garden most of the time.

no its not

*I have owned at least one outdoor cat and all have died of natural causes or indoor accidents.

if you've only owned indoor cats you couldn't choose that option

poll options are more skewed than letting the snp write the refferendum.

Not intentionally, Tefal. It is just asking a very specific question, and isn't really interested in indoor cats, hence there aren't a lot of responses. It is a assumed that indoor cats won't be hit by cars. Not sure if that's a safe assumption in Wales...

Where's all the other options?

I have owned at least one outdoor cat who died whilst indoors as a result of an accident involving a kitchen appliance

I have owned at least one outdoor cat, who shortly after eating the mouse, that ate the spider, that ate the fly, then died a horrible and gruesome death at the hands of my pet dog

I have owned at least one outdoor cat who died picking a fight with another cat whilst on a holiday to Sumatra

I have owned at least one outdoor cat who died after confusing itself for a pancake

PS: I have never had a cat....

I'm guessing your thread is because of the responses you were getting in the other cat thread regarding indoor cats?

We have 2 indoor cats, both rescues. I have no feelings either way regarding rescue vs reputable breeder - we just happened to have an opportunity to own cats drop in our laps. Both were already indoor cats and have remained indoor cats. They both have the freedom of a large, three bedroomed property with lots of places high to sit and stare. Neither seem to have suffered from their ordeal and I would have another indoor cat in a heartbeat.

Not sure about taking a cat used to going outside and keeping it in however, that doesn't feel right.

Oh and in answer to OP - *I have owned at least one outdoor cat who died as a result of an accident involving a car

The claim that only 25% of outdoor cats were involved in car accidents made me start this thread. But it is not intended to prove or disprove that claim. It's just a morbid little poll, for science.

You need to press up, down, left, right, A then Start to enable those options.

Nope, can't add a poll:

Poll options cannot exceed 100 characters. Option(s) 4 exceed this limitation.

my previous cat wasn't ran over by a car but got attacked by a fox/dog or something that's big enough to rip him to bits, he still crawled home, covered in blood and was half dead when we found him outside.

vet suggested to just put him down asap because the little thing was in mental amounts of pain with little to no chance of walking again.

I now have another cat, who is house only and is often let outside in the garden with my supervision to play/get some fresh air and chew on some grass!
