Thing is people quote these crazy prices and they don't dig around. I rented in Clapham for 600 pm all in 1 year ago. Double bed + lots of space.

Landlord might not know about it... when I was renting in a 3 bed flat years ago we sublet the box room as a 4th bedroom... wardrobe was the old airing cupboard in the corridor and the room was only just big enough for a bed... was usually rented for 6 months or so by Aussie backpackers etc.. knocked a decent chunk off our rent.

It does seem so, yes. But if the person renting it is willing to keep quiet (and why would you complain about the residence you chose to rent?) then not much is going to happen.
