10 dead in a US college shooting

That's why imo its so strange. Guns now are only available to criminals or people who pay ludicrous gun membership fees in the UK. All because of a few complete and utter scumbags.

Not sure what's wrong with that, to be honest.

Everything (more or less) which is illegal is only available to criminals - doesn't mean it shouldn't be illegal. Expensive licensing for potentially deadly weapons seems sensible too.

I'm not completely against guns - I live in the sticks where my neighbour goes shooting and brings me the odd brace of game birds - but I'm more than happy to keep things restricted.

I suppose. But in the end if you are going to kill someone, you are going to do it regardless of weapon. I just suppose its the amount of damage that can be done with semi auto rifles etc.

I'm not even sure that's true. The ease of killing with guns - the disconnect between your actions and the reaction (unlike, say, stabbing), and the speed with which you can take down more than one target, and from a range that other murder weapons wouldn't allow - means that it's a relatively attractive way for these utter losers (they're almost all total social rejects) to go out with a bang and get their name in lights.

It's wrong because you shouldn't be in a position where the bad guys have them and the good guys don't. It's better if either no-one has that, or everyone has them.
Is that really the position a restricted gun-law society is in? Where the bad guys have loads of guns?

Do you think there are more guns in criminal hands in the UK or in America?

The "everyone has them" scenario doesn't seem to be working so well right now.

Not that banning all guns is the answer - or for that matter, remotely possible - anyway. It's quite clear that there needs to be tighter gun controls, more consistent laws across states and more thorough assessment of applicants (both at the time and regularly thereafter).

Surely owning a fire arm is liberal? I envy the freedom they have at times... Here we are sheep with no voice. I mean just look at how we managed to curtail immigration and the creation of the police state.

Every day a new Act appears, Or some ******** law that takes control over your own body, Or your child. Disagree and armed thugs will cart you off to prison and you have no self defense at all.

Thats freedom?

It's Libertarian, not Liberal.

Not surprised

Will happen again and again

America is fast becoming a joke of a country

I've said this many times before and I'll say it again, guns kill people. Please dont be an idiot with the whole guns don't kill people, people do rubbish. No, guns kill people.

You're an idiot..... i know plenty of people who legally shoot firearms of all types and have yet to kill anyone and in all honesty would be suprised if they ever do.

People kill people... if they have the means to make it easier is another matter but you can't ban everything. UK Gun control laws are some of the strictest and IMO some of the best but i'm sure the UK shooting scene will take a further hammering once the extremist press report this tomorrow

Imagine someone just turning up and going "your $5,000+ worth of guns are now illegal we are going to destroy them".

This happened with the pistol ban in the UK, overnight hundreds of thousands of pounds of pistols became illegal. Thousands of people lost a small fortune and the number of shooting clubs and facilities in the UK pretty much halved.

Sad Sad day

Some people (myself included) enjoy shooting as a sport and hobby but that was ruined a long time ago now. Sure you can shoot clays and at the gun clubs but its severely restricted and expensive.

I pay £52 a year for the opportunity to shoot at my firearms range and then i buy the rounds on top which is £8 for 50 .38 special or £3 for 50 22lr.... Not expensive at all.

I'm also getting an introduction to a clay ground for £7.50 a visit + about £80 membship + carts on top as i use them

BTW, I'm not advocating the banning of guns. I enjoy shooting myself, albeit with airguns. Just think that they shouldnt be able to stick an ar15 in their trolly at the local supermarket so easily. Why would a licensing system be so bad? I'd imagine it has something to do with how many Americans are heavily medicated for depression etc, which would be something that might stop them getting a gun.

I do think that the focus is always on guns when they should also be looking at why people are feeling the need to murder their classmates all the time over there.. Maybe looking at the way kids are made to feel like failures because they can't become part of the football/cheerleader team etc. Even little things like the fact they don't have school uniforms over there. It sounds insignificant, but there are reasons we and other European countries have had them for decades.

Indeed before the invention of firearms, How did people kill others? If you want to kill someone you can or will. A knife has no waiting list and is very very effective. Stab in the right place and thier going down, Rinse and repeat by the time the police arrive the numbers of dead could easily be the same, And it will not jam either. The same could be said with some gunpowder and nails, Or a crossbow. The list goes on and on people kill people and always have.

Remember Rigby? No firearms just a fast moving vehicle and knives. Should we ban cars now too?

It's fully legal to own a handgun in NI, so it wasn't a full UK ban.

Clay shooting is one of the more expensive hobbies. It's very easy to burn through 50 pounds worth of ammo or more in an hour and then paying for the clays on top. Do that every weekend and it will soon add up.
