Stoptober

I don't need a concocted month of the year to make a change. Do it now in the moment, don't let some crappy excuse of some celebration make you do it.

This exactly. If you want to stop doing something that you think is detrimental to your health. You can decide to do that at at any time of the year. Sure there's the charity aspect in such cases. That's upto each person. Myself, I don't give money to charities.

Its those that decide not to drink for a month and make a massive deal out of it.

If you can't go a month without drinking you really need to re-evaluate your lives.

Come and say that in the "One The Wagon... " thread.

I'll raise you, 15 years in December for me since I last had an alcoholic drink. :D

I miss the craic, but it's great not waking up on weekends feeling like death.

Had a friend who did this last year when it was running.

At the end of the first day she posted to Facebook "Managed to make it through today without a drink, glad today is over with"

When I asked her if she was serious about what she posted she said "absolutely"

She didn't quite get it when I pointed out that maybe this screamed out that she had a problem that would take more than one month to sort out.....

I go out and drink socially, usually just pints at a few local pubs/clubs. I'm never ill the next morning, I don't go out to get off my box blind drunk. That's for kids.

Ah, you mean like New Years resolutions that so many fail after the first week or two/month? ¬¬

Yeah and next month its 'movember' ........ Seriously.

I started growing for Movember a month ago, I'm not going to leave the house until the end of November though, so everyone will think I grew a 3 month beard in only a month! Mwahahaha, the long con.

The slogan could be.

Fiddle with your member?
Stop this November

Instead of No Fap, they should remarket it as Fap a Friend :D

46 hours so far.

I don't feel too bad actually. Dare I say it - it doesn't seem too hard at the moment. This is mainly due to vaping instead though. I'm still doing my usual inhaling, and still getting a small nicotine hit. I expect the feeling for a proper fag will grow though.

Those of you going years without drinking - what made you do that if you don't mind me asking?

I've only been on the wagon for a couple of months, but my reasons...

Firstly, I'm diabetic. I find my blood sugar levels much easier to control when I cut alcohol from my diet.

Secondly, I'd really like to avoid becoming addicted. I know myself, and when I start something, I tend to go all-in on it. I was knocking back a good 3 or 4 bottles of beer a day before I decided thats probably an unhealthy thing to be doing.

Also, it turns out stopping the beer consumption is pretty much the easiest weight loss strategy ever.

I'm not making a lifetime commitment to become teetotal, I'm just enjoying feeling super healthy for the time being.

Movember is for blokes, therefore there should be a Fanuary for the girls. But there isn't.
