Havok joins Microsoft

Not quite sure where to put this but the graphics card section seemed like a good as place as any.

Interesting, I'm a little surprised but hopefully it will my my work life a little easier at least :p. As a gamer I hope the idea of hardware based physics with Havok and OpenCL becomes a possibility again.

It's in the new rainbow six and it works great..
I laughed so hard other day, I smashed open the floor leaving a gab between the flooring, I through a nade hoping for it to go down into the room under me but instead I missed and it went between the floor boards rolling down towards end of room exploding it looks superb.

It makes scene for microsoft, they could make it part of Direct X and or temp Devs to work with the Xbox one with a "Free" physics engine.

You can make some great tech but that doesn't mean the developers will make great use of it lol.

So true. I after admit ubisoft have a real gem with rainbow six I feel. I was very surprised how the game reacted to the nade and the gab between flooring I don't think I have seen that before.

Being in games middleware I've seen some horrid use of my works technology and of course some brilliant indigenous uses :) the same is true for Havok and Physx :)

Loved Havoc since it was used in Half Life 2.
And still think no other game integrated physics that well, without ever making it feel like a gimmick.

This is actually significant since Havok was always a very good alternative to physx. With MS it's obviously been acquired to be used in Xbox One /DX12 games and their cloud gaming. MS say they will still license to devs but if the costs are raised then it could be bad for gaming since a lot of the non-physx games used havok. Havok is not as demanding on hardware unlike physx afaik.

Havok is great. Pretty certain it was used in Fallout 3.

Funny when it freaks out. Seeing a body fly up into the sky and spazz around for a few seconds is always fun :D
