Does DVI-D work for 144hz 1440p?

I managed to get 75hz with frames dropping and 120hz with fuzzing I was wondering if it is the cable I am using doing this. I wanted to see what those with the Swift or any other 1440p capable with 144hz to see what they have it connected with.

It has nowhere near enough bandwidth. You need to use DP 1.2. Plus variable refresh rate technologies require the use of DP.

Alright thanks guys looks like I'll buy myself a displayport and see if I can get it higher. Think it has quite a lot in the tank tbh.

DVI can handle 100hz at 1440p, but you will need the amd or NVidia pixel clock patcher for it to work. This is a bandwidth of over 400 MHz pixel clock.
I've tested a display scaled (NOT DSR or VSR) 2560x1440@100hz and 398.40 MHz pixel clock successfully over DVI (using a 1080p monitor, no less). So yes it can work.

120hz will most definitely NOT work. You *MAY* get it to work via a custom resolution by lowering the "Horizontal total" value to drop the kHz rate and pixel clock a bit.
Someone did manage a 519 MHz pixel clock over DVI (185 hz refreh rate!!!) when it's supposed to be limited to 450 MHz, so anything is possible.
