CRIMBO GAMING PC FOR SON HELP!?!

Hi all

im looking to get my son into pcs and he is an avid gamer on the xbox

hes played counter strike and loves it

ive put together a build that should last for ages hopefully lol

see what you think and what i could change

he will end up wanting to play the latest titles too

theres no hdds as i have some

or should i give hime my mobo and cpu and upgrade mine

what do you think

Probably cheaper mobo available for the non K chips.
Not sure I would use such a big cooler either for non K.

Damn you love your son! I never got that much for christmas, or birthday..

I'd possibly go for a k chip as it's only about £15 more? Better resale value and will last longer as you'll be able to overclock it if it starts to struggle.

Get some faster RAM, because you can.

Possibly change the PSU.

I would put them into a basket but iPad says no.

look around for a cheaper windows key (windows 7 and 8 keys you can upgrade to 10 for free) you can get one for less than £20 and use the spare cash to upgrade the gpu

Back on topic. I'd definitely try to get the Windows 10 Retail version so he can reuse the same license when (Windows 7 came out in 2009) his current rig gets old and he upgrades.

I'd definitely not get retail windows. I'd get a key for about ten quid and just upgrade it to win 10. Insane to spend full price on it.

As I've said I dont need hdd as I've got some same as optical drives I'll only use for install

I would alter it like this:

6600K
Asus Z170-K
Kingston Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit
KFA2 GeForce GTX 960 Reference 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Retail

Will only add about £20 onto the build but will be more future proof and should you want to overclock it should do 4.5Ghz out of the box.

EDIT: There is actually a Gigabyte bundle that saves even more making it almost identical price for the skylake, z170 and DDR4 - Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI - Intel Core i5 6600K Bundle **20 Saving**

Please go for a decent psu. The Silverstone Strider Essential series are cheap and nasty rubbish. A extra £25 get's you a fully modular, gold rated EVGA Supernova GS 550w that is built by Seasonic and has a 5 year warranty.

Tobe honest I don't think I'll be upgrading for a bit as they won't be much real performance for the money spent

I think he'll get a 4690k + gtx 970

Which should keep him going
