Question for diabetics - Moderating sugar intake

Or he had too much insulin/missed a meal. No offence dude but your dad should really go see the GP as it's clear he lacks any understanding of the disease and management

Don't worry I gave me a good telling off. I wasn't impressed.
He basically blamed tiredness on too much insulin. I did not take the softy approach here with him.

Diagnosed as LADA or Type 1.5 diabetic in April.

I wasn't obese, but a little overweight (5'7 and 13st ish), exercised regularly (cycling over 100 miles a week, every week) and not a drinker or drinking fizzy/sugary stuff.

Diet was fine mostly but ate loads of dried fruit and tended to have ready meals when I was working a night shift.
started weeing all the time, went to GP, BM (blood sugar) of over 30. averaging 26.9 from prev 3 months.
After then I cut my carbs as much as I can but not 100% as I'm fine still eating some.
Came off medication after 2 months, diet controlled ever since.

I'd say the best thing to do is actually look at what you're eating and the amounts you are eating.
So many things have sugar (and lots of it) when you wouldn't expect it. Think breakfast and lunch in particular.
Things like meal deals, sammich, a bar and a drink? easy to make that 50-60G of sugar never mind total carbs.

I'm now sub 12st, feeling much better now and Dr says blood sugar average is a bit low (which I feel is good but he says not).

Best advise?
Read the labels.
Think before you eat, fruit/juice/squash etc are going to contain sugar even if it IS fructose.
Don't go nuts or you'll go hypo and crash.

I have ulcerative colitis and during a recent flair up. My goto prednisolone has had the undesired effect of giving me T2 Diabetes. Its under control and is getting easier to control as I'm starting to taper off the steroids.

Had a scare last week. I overdid the work a little during our latest house renovation. Thought at first it was blood pressure ad I had been leaning over a lot and stood up feeling a little dizzy.

Went down stairs and started to crash.... quickly, I checked by blood and was at 3.4 and obviously in its way down. I went grey and started sweating. Mars bar, fresh orange and a packet of crisps and 10 mins sat on the floor and alls good again.

When I was diagnosed I told the nurse that all I had eaten that day was a packet of crisps and 2 cups of coffee. This was 3pm after unloading 2 7.5ton vans full of house move furniture. And that I expect my reading to be low. 22....oops thats not low.

I had ,had symptons. Unquenchable thirst. so up 5 times a night peeing. And blurred vision at distance which I put down to being tired from all the peeing.
All symptoms came on within 3 days of starting on the Pred. So I'm hopfull when they steroids go, it takes the diabetes with it.

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I eat low carb/high fat and my sugar levels are almost as good as a non diabetic.

Less carbs = less insulin needed to break food down = less weight. I've lost 6 kilos since I started the diet 2 months ago.

I've UC too, but I'm on pentasa rather than prednisolone. hows your weight?

I'm a couple of stone over what I should be to be honest. But was tested for diabetes a month before my flair up and no issues so still hopeful that its the steroids causing the issues.
