Forum "Disputes"

This is an excellent move. I hope that suspended members do get the ability to post their grievances.

Again, it would be nice if even the lower post counted members were able to do it.
I think that limiting it to those with a post count of over 1000 is unreasonable, and doesn't promote the use of such a subforum.

I would say that just because we have this forum doesn't mean that everyone will be happy with the moderation. Sometime we have to do things that are for the best interests of the community that individual members may object to.

Quite good, there have been a few suspension for various pictures I posted that I believe may have been subject to different interpretation by different people.
One actual suspension was a complete misunderstanding and only generated when the post it related to was deleted when I RTMed it.
Then there have been several which were simply down to missing a non-fully sworn out word, the word of a well known porn site added to a picture of Obama, and ones I was completely guilty of not understanding the forum rules upon.

All in all the mods do a good job, just will be nice to see things thrown open to discussion and discussed response from mods on various aspects, seeing different POVs within the team.

It would be nice if occasionally these discussions could be publicised after the event, so posters in general can learn from the experiences of others.

Brushing things under the carpet in a 'Private' Forum does nothing. If you had consistent Moderators who were accountable for their actions, stuck to actual Rules instead of making them up as they go along... It would clear up a lot of the Moderator issues here. From what I've seen half of them don't even display any way to contact them.

Yes, I know they do a thankless and difficult job, so why make things harder for themselves? Of course people will query what they have done wrong if there's absolutely nothing to indicate what they did or even know which Moderator acted upon it. It just causes unnecessary friction on both sides.

Every day is Festivus Day on the OCuk forums!

(Personally, I'm going to continue to air my beefs via rap songs.)

Kinky.

Good idea though. Can also see doofer's point about it being public - a third party opinion is often a useful thing to have.

Let us try one thing at a time.

We're making steps to make this place better and at least offering a place where people can discuss directly with us.

We may even move it out to public viewing if people want to see the outputs. But let us learn from this first.

I don't want us to constantly be bashed for not trying to make this place better and offer a mechanism by which members can chat about issues.

Logical steps. Can't argue with that.

Honestly, how many moderators ever admit to getting something wrong and removing a suspension?

I agree with what Doofer said;

There needs to be a clear set of rules; that each moderator abides.

When a user is suspended; it would be nice to have the option to enter in to a discussion with the moderator that took action, and their reasoning explained (including which rules were broken) and where this happened. So you could click a button on the suspension screen, to create a post in this 'sub forum', that should be open to all members, where the post which got the user suspended was quoted and the user would be able to explain themselves and the moderator could explain themselves.

It should be open to members, if there is a case where a moderator has gotten it wrong, having third parties to help out (including other moderators) would be a benefit in my opinion. Where as now, there is no transparency, if you question moderators it is done in private, they do not have to explain themselves and more often then not will not remove suspensions or admit to mistakes.

I think it creates tension, where there really should be none.

That's a fair comment. But hopefully with this sub forum people can query issues and perhaps in due course publicise the outcomes with consent.

However one thing at a time. :)

Guys I'm not after making things tougher I want to make this place better. If you think this is rubbish we will find out. Let's give this a fair go and try to work together. That's all I ask. We're trying to be more open and proactive because I felt that it was required. I may be wrong.

'more open' in a private sub forum?
