Hi all, mine and most other companies work April to April for holidays. Our shop floor workers get 28 days holiday (20 plus 8 bank holidays).

This year has 2 Easters! The April on and 2016 is in March..

That could mean that the 20+8 bank is now 20+6 for the 2016-2017 period. That's below the legal minimum. Will people loose out or gain 2 free days holiday?

Technically you get 28 days holiday of which 8 is normally used up by the bank holidays. If your year only has 6 bank holidays then you can book 22 other days off.

Yep, they'll need 2 more days added to their non-bank holiday days.

On another note, what kind of skin-flints do you work for, 28 days and 8 of them are taken up by Bank Holidays???? How tight is that.

I get 28 days plus bank holidays where I am now and the worst I ever had was 25 plus BH and I thought that was tight.

I didn't think anyone would have the gall to give their employees the absolute legal minimum.

28 is less than I get in the US:eek:

I dream of getting 28 days holiday. Currently get 12 + bank holidays (in the US).

My UK holiday wasn't too much better either. I only got 20 days + bank holidays, 3 of which had to be taken at Xmas so I ended up with a whopping 17 days (this was only 2 years ago too)

I get 32 but forced to take 10 at christmas which is a pain - I'd rather the option of working over christmas tbh. I can carry unused holiday though which is a bonus

Depends on the industry. Every company I have worked for only gives the minimum. Transport, engineering, construction.

I think you will find the vast majority of people in this country only get 28.

12 days holiday?! is that the norm over there? are there a lot more bank holidays?

In the US getting 14 days is the norm I believe. Happy to be proven wrong, it's what a couple of family members get over there and an ex's mum. It appears to be the norm, craziness if you ask me :p

Your all lucky..

i only get one day off and I have to spend that at work. Sat in a wet box.
Dont know your born.

Standard in the US is between 10 and 15 vacation days with around 9-11 holidays depending on state. The 10 vacation days i stypcial for unskilled workers, 15 for professionals but that may depend on industry. Typically after 5 years service you gain 5 days, 10 years service 10 day and 15 years 15 days. SO dif you are lucky and stick with a company you can get up to about 40 days a years.

If you are unlucky and chop and change you are at a bout 20 all in.

Pretty terrible but one thing that is more common is unpaid vacation, which works out well since you earn more you then get the freedom to work more and get paid mroe, or take more time off.
