When our WD NAS was failing we tried a check over USB - passed. Ran it directly connected and found loads of issues.
Ok -did it that way as could start it straight away. Will do again on my win 10 PC but that will have to wait as copying loads of photos from there onto my 6TB raided discs on the Proliant. That is the only machine that I have a spare sata data / power lead (by disconnecting the data lead from the DVD writer!)
Will let you know the outcome later.
Mel
Well - the outcome was that with direct SATA connection no errors showed and a further CHKDSK showed no errors. Have reformatted and reintroduced as a Raid 0 device - will check tomorrow morning.

Controller must be being fussy then!
ebay ilo licences - I've bought 6 of them so far and all 6 work fine. Are any on best offer? Just offer £20 inc postage. Keep trying til you get one![]()
I am content with "remote access" on my local intranet. Do I need to buy an iLO licence for that? Can anyone advise please.
For 'full' remote access, yes you need a licence.
Unlicensed Ilo's only give you until an OS starts to boot before cutting you off.
So you could use it for setting up HDDs and firmware updates but not managing the server?
As a side note, did you not get my trust message?
Not sure where to look for this?
It should have been delivered by E-mail. I've sent it again bud as I'm not sure on the rules of this forum for posting it publicly.
can you try them in the other pair of bays? and do you really want to be running raid 0 with a possibly dodgy disk?
Nox
Have you tried just JBOD'ing the disks and getting into Windows to see what it makes of them?
