I had a white van man reverse in to me in a car park about 2 years ago and ever since i've had at least one phone call per week from different companies telling me there is unclaimed money waiting for me.

I've always told them to eff off since it was a 3 mile an hour knock but today I decided to indulge them to see where it goes. They basically just tried to press me really hard to agree that I suffered discomfort in my neck and/or shoulders for three months after the accident and they must have told me about 100 times that nothing needs to be proven, i just need to agree and then boom, i'll be getting £2,000. I went along with it until they put me through to a solicitor and by this point I was just tired of the BS so I told them to go away and leave me alone.

Anyone know how to get these people to go away without actually trying to make a false claim?

I had the same, it was always like "it didn't need to hurt, no matter how little it was you can just claim you suffered discomfort" and similarly stated I didn't need to have proof from doctors etc after it.

I think after 3 years you can no longer claim? That might be a lie they told me but after that 3 year mark they never bothered me again.. it was 2 years after it that I started receiving calls too and told them I had no interest, would still call me back every month though.

You can't. Some of them just random call in the hope they find a household that had an accident in the last few years. They are dodgy companies who will try and bill you for their "work" if they don't get cash out of the insurers. They don't take into account TPSA, are usually offshore, and don't pay attention when you tell them not to call your number. They are disreputable scammers, so they are not going to listen to anything you say.

I've just taken to leaving the phones off and ignoring the calls, or just hanging-up straight away without wasting my breath. You can't stop them because the people who call you are dishonest scum in the first place.

Just out of interest, how did the companies get your number in the first place or even know you had an accident?

The insurance company most likely sold the details to them, as when I was called they knew all the details of the accident and only the insurer and other parties insurer knew of the details.

Most people's own insurance companies sell details on and make money!
I thought there was a major crackdown last year about these no win no fee company's touting for business:confused: and insurers had stopped paying out for silly little claims.
I find it mad that people can still claim a few years later that they where injured and still get money despite little evidence.
Then again I recently heard about someone knocking a persons wing mirror off and then that person still got a few grand injury compo from ambulance chasers despite the fact it's impossible to be injured from a wing mirror coming off

Used to get calls like this all the time until I was told by a friend to register here and I would say that 90%+ of unwanted calls stopped very quickly.

Its a free service by the way.

I just pass my phone to my boss if I'm at work, he's the biggest practical joker/windup merchant I know and will keep them going for ages with the most ridiculous stories.

I still get calls and its been just over 5 years :-/

I get ambulance chasers cold calling and I've not had an accident or claim in 20 years!

Over the summer I was getting calls from 3 or more different numbers a day. Some numbers would call me several times a day. I eventually registered on TPS and the frequency dropped but I ended up cancelling my contract and now only my family and employer have my number.

I was a contractor until recently and needed to give my number out to agencies etc. Now I only carry a phone so school or family can contact me.

I simply answer "I don't recall any form of a crash or I am suffering from amnesia as I don't remember it" They they normally ask something stupid like "Have you ever had a trip or a fall from no fault of your own" to that I normally reply "I got drunk in a bar and probably fell over once does that count" for some reason they hang up on me.

I've had to block so many numbers of these calling.

Apparently I'd crashed my car 'within the last 6 months' when I asked them which car I'd crashed it was one I'd not owed for three years (all paperwork was ok and I wasn't registered keeper anymore) . I quote 'that doesn't matter Sir we can still claim for you'

Indeed, I don't give my insurance company my real phone number anymore - I simply don't trust them with it.
