Best VPN for China?

I visit China next week for work for 1 week. I usually get a VPN for my phone etc so I can browse Facebook etc whilst out there.

Just looking online and it seems China cracked down on VPNs earlier this year, so thought would see if anyone has a recommendation and/or any experience this year with VPNs & who from?

I usually go with uktvaccess whilst away in the Far East.

Unfortunately not, I've got a dire standard Sky Router.

Not sure how they manage it (deep packet inspection...?) but when I was in China a few weeks ago, even the VPN which I have set up on my DD-WRT based router at home didn't work. I could connect to the VPN fine and network trafffic appeared to be going through the VPN, but attempting to connect to sites like facebook still didn't work :confused:

By blocking entire subnets.

Yeah I've read they've clamped down loads on majority of VPNs, hope not! Hopefully someone has used a recent one who can suggest.

(Will also double check my router, when I looked earlier it didn't have anything).

Cisco IPSec VPN clients work in China, so find one that uses that

I used https://www.goldenfrog.com/vyprvpn for a month in Vietnam and then a month in China last year. Worked well, lots of servers around the world. And pretty cheap. However, that was almost a year ago. Time flies!

I love people like you. Facebook is a fine tool, but it dependents who you have on it. Mine isn't filled with crap, because I don't have crap people on it. If your feed is overrun with rubbish then I'm afraid the people you add (and no doubt you yourself) are rubbish.

that's the thing - people moaning about facebook are more often than not really moaning more about the people they are friends with/interact with

It's a week. Have you been there before and likely to go again? If not just go out and enjoy something new.
If you have to watch something take a boxset of your favourite show or film series and watch that.

I don't think you can use free vpn in China because they have upgraded their GFW and blocking VPN services. better to use paid service that can help you to bypass geo-restrictions in China. ExpressVPN and PureVPN working fine in China till now.

i go to china a few times a year for a month or so at a time. for work
i uses 2 vpns, cisco any connect and 1 built in to my router
connections are flaky, i get the best connection using my mobile phone data as its not filtered as much e.g can access facebook but i use a vpn on top to keep my details secure , i did forget one time and had my bank account and email and skype hacked the same day. whooops
but i would say dont bother trying to watch iplayer its worse then 56k just take films with u.
